Mattress Construction

Both mattresses feature a dual coil system.

As you can see, the Leesa Legend has a dual coil system with micro coils and pocketed coils.

Both mattresses are impressive when it comes to their construction and design. Let’s start with the Leesa Legend. It is a 12″ mattress with an organic cotton and merino wool cover. The mattress has multiple layers of foam and coils that work very well together. It has a hole-punched foam for temperature regulation at the top layer and directly below it is memory foam for pressure relief and contouring. The highlight of this mattress is the combination of micro-coils and foam. This allows the mattress to provide different levels of support for the upper body and the lower body.

The support layer of the Leesa Legend is made up of six-inch pocketed coils encased in foam. Springs are great for support and they don’t trap heat as much as foam so you can sleep cool. Overall, the design of the mattress is very good. It is comfortable and it provides ample support for sleepers.

As for the Saatva mattress, it also has a dual coil system in place. The top layer is a euro top with a quilted cotton cover. Below that layer is memory foam for lumbar support and extra comfort. Underneath the memory foam layer are individually wrapped coils that provide additional comfort, support as well as body contouring.

The support layer is seven inches of tempered steel hourglass connected coils. These coils are great for durability and support. The design of the Saatva mattress is also very good as its dual coil system allows it to provide comfort and support without the heat trapping that is a common problem with all-foam mattresses.

Mattress Feel

Saatva comes with three firmness options. The Leesa Legend is a medium rated mattress.

The Saatva mattress

When it comes to the feel or firmness of the mattresses, Saatva has three options while the Leesa Legend only comes with one – medium. For Saatva, you can choose plush, luxury firm or firm. Obviously, this is an advantage for the Saatva mattress because different types of sleepers will have options as to how soft or firm they want their mattress to be. For side sleepers, the best option is the plush as it can provide better pressure relief for your shoulder, hips and knees. For back and stomach sleeperss, you can either go with the medium (luxury firm) or the firm option, preference plays a huge part in this.

Both mattresses are great to sleep on. They are comfortable and they provide very good support while you sleep. The dual coil system on both mattresses provide pressure relief, bounce, responsiveness and support to the user. Since they both have coils in the comfort and support layer, they are not prone to heat retention so you can sleep comfortably without feeling hot. Overall, they are about the same when it comes to comfort and support. The biggest difference here is the firmness options.

Performance

The Saatva mattress performs better than the Leesa Legend in some areas.

A look at the Leesa Legend

For performance, we’ll be looking at how they fare in different areas.

  • Motion Transfer – Both mattresses perform very well in this area. Even though they are spring mattresses, they both minimize motion transfer very well. The memory foam layers help a lot in this area. Couples will not have a problem with either mattress even when their partner moves a lot while they sleep.
  • Cooling – Since both use springs in the comfort and support layer, cooling is not an issue. When compared to all-foam mattresses, both the Leesa Legend and the Saatva mattress are cooler to sleep on and they don’t trap heat as much.
  • Noise – Spring mattresses, at least the low quality ones, are prone to producing creaking sounds as they age. With both mattresses, this is not an issue.
  • Off-Gassing – The Saatva mattress does not off-gas when it is delivered to your house. The Leesa Legend, on the other hand, does, because it comes in a box, vacuum-sealed.
  • Edge Support – Once again, the Saatva mattress has the advantage here. It comes with steel edge guards that allows it to have better edge support. This means that you won’t fall off easily even if you sleep near the edge of the mattress. For couples, this should be a consideration.

Warranty and Shipping

Saatva offers free in-home setup as well as mattress removal.

Saatva’s free white glove delivery offers great value.

Warranty for the Saatva mattress is 15 years and for the Leesa Legend, 10 years. They both offer sleep trials, with Saatva giving you 180 nights and Leesa offering 100 nights. As you can see, Saatva has the better deal when it comes to warranty and sleep trial duration.

Shipping is free for both mattresses. However, delivery is different. For the Saatva mattress, they offer free white glove delivery. This means that the delivery people will set-up the mattress in a room of your choosing. Saatva also offers a mattress removal service for free – the delivery guys will remove up to two items out of your home. It can be two mattresses or a foundation or mattress.

As for Leesa, they also offer white glove delivery, for a fee. At the time of writing, the fee is $149 and this includes mattress removal. You don’t have to avail of this service if you don’t want to. The mattress comes in a box so it’s not very hard to set it up by yourself. It is heavy though, so you might want to enlist the help of a friend or a housemate if you can’t carry it by yourself.

Verdict

The Saatva Mattress is the better mattress overall.

Leesa Legend

At its current price, we can’t recommend it over the Saatva mattress.

Saatva Mattress

Best overall when it comes to performance and value.

The Saatva mattress is more affordable and when it comes to performance, it edges out the Leesa Legend in a lot of areas. Saatva also offers a longer warranty and sleep trial duration. They also offer free shipping with white glove delivery at no additional cost. Overall, Saatva offers the better deal and if you are looking at these specific mattresses, you should go with the Saatva mattress.
