The HP Omen 25L is more compact than the HP Omen 30L, but the latter offers better airflow.

hp omen 25l vs 30l design
Side by side look at the HP Omen 25L (left) and 30L (right).

The main difference between the two gaming systems is their size. The HP Omen 25L’s case is measured at 15.53 x 6.50 x 17.05 inches while the HP Omen 30L’s case is measured at 16.61 x 6.50 x 17.05 inches. The two cases are similar in height and width, but the HP Omen 30L’s case is a little over an inch deeper. This difference in size allows the HP Omen 30L to have better cooling.

Looks-wise, they both sport a brushed finish at the front with the HP Omen diamond logo and branding. The logo is RGB-backlit, so you can change its lighting effects using the HP Omen Gaming Hub. A noticeable difference is that the HP Omen 30L gaming desktop has an additional 120mm fan that’s also RGB-backlit. It also has side grills that should help with cooling.

The two mid-tower gaming PCs both have two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, a headphone jack and a microphone jack at the top. At the back, they both have four USB 3.0 Type-A ports, a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A port, a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port, DVI-D, HDMI and DP port.

You can get the HP Omen 25L with either a solid or tempered glass side panel, while the HP Omen 30L is only available with a tempered glass side panel.

The HP Omen 25L comes with either a solid or tempered glass side panel (image).

You can get the HP Omen 25L gaming desktop in various configurations. You can either fully customize it or choose one of the pre-builts available. As mentioned above, the HP Omen 25L is the smaller of the two gaming desktops, so it’s not quite as good when it comes to cooling since there are no grills at the front for air intake. It comes with a 92mm exhaust fan and either a 92mm air cooler or a120mm AIO cooler for the CPU.

As for its internals, you can get it with the latest 11th Gen Intel Core or AMD Ryzen 5000 CPUs, as well as 10th Gen Intel Core and AMD Ryzen 3000 CPUs. Both the HP Omen 25L and 30L offer the same CPU choices.

However, they differ when it comes to graphics card choices. As of now, the most powerful graphics card available with the HP Omen 25L is the NVIDIA RTX 3070 or the AMD Radeon 6700XT. Higher end graphics cards such as the 3080 and the 3090 are not available on this system.

The RAM is supplied by HyperX and you can configure both systems to up to 64GB DDR4-3200 in a 16GBx4 configuration. Western Digital supplies the SSD, while the power supply and cooling are from Cooler Master.

HP Omen 30L Specs

A short HP Omen 30L review.

hp omen 25l vs 30l hp omen 30l specs
The HP Omen 30L offers better cooling since it has a roomier case and it comes with an additional 120mm fan at the front.

Similar to the HP Omen 25L, the HP Omen 30L is available in several configurations. It can be configured to have either the latest Intel or AMD processors, as well as the latest AMD or NVIDIA graphics cards.

The HP Omen 30L RTX 3080 configuration, as it stands, is the best when it comes to overall performance. The HP Omen 30L with an RTX 3090 will certainly beat it, but it costs too much to justify the slight increase in performance.

Just like with the HP Omen 25L, HyperX, Cooler Master and Western Digital will supply the RAM, PSU, cooling and storage. The HP Omen 30L motherboard is designed by HP and it doesn’t come with many expansion ports since it is a micro-ATX board.

Performance

Due to better cooling, the HP Omen 30L performs better than the 25L.

hp omen 25l vs 30l performance
Both the HP Omen 25L and 30L gaming desktops are upgradeable and customizable.

The HP Omen 25L and 30L both come with Windows Home, with an option to upgrade to the Pro version. They also come with a 30-day McAffee and Office trial that you can upgrade to their paid versions. The main app that controls various settings for the two gaming systems is the Omen Gaming Hub. The app allows you to customize the RGB lighting on the case and the RAM, control the fan speed, and check the temps and vitals of the CPU, memory, GPU and other parts.

When it comes to gaming, the HP Omen 30L will generally perform better than the 25L, given that they have the same configuration, due to better cooling. It comes with an additional 120mm front intake fan that helps regulate the case temperature. The HP Omen 25L, on the other hand, offers subpar cooling since it only has a lone 92mm rear exhaust fan.

Unfortunately, there are not enough mounting points to place extra fans to improve airflow on both cases. If you need to place extra fans, you’ll need to do some improvising by using zip ties, and if you are the type that value aesthetics, this is not an elegant solution.

Verdict

We recommend the HP Omen 30L over the 25L due to its better cooling.

Amazon product

If you are set on getting an HP Omen gaming PC, we recommend that you go with the HP Omen 30L over the HP Omen 25L. The HP Omen 30L’s case is better suited for gaming since it is roomier and it offers better overall cooling. It’s worth it to spend the extra money on it since it won’t have throttling issues that can limit your PC’s gaming performance.
