Build & Material
Both chairs feature high-quality mesh material with aluminum or plastic bases. The X2 offers a headrest attachment, while the Aeron lacks one.

Both chairs are well-built and offer good lumbar support, helping to alleviate back pain from long hours of sitting. They differ, however, in their mesh material, technology, color choices, and headrest availability.
The X2 features K-sport Advanced Performance Material for the headrest, seat, and back This gives a softer, more adaptive feel with a tighter weave to optimize comfort. The armrests are made of plastic and the base is made from heavy-duty polished aluminum. The mesh comes in four different colors: grey, black, red, and white.
The Aeron Chair features 8Z Pellicle suspension material for the seat and backrest. This creates eight zones of varying tensions for optimal support and breathability. Apart from the mesh, all of the plastic used in the chair is of high quality, and the standard wheels are 2.5” in diameter, larger than the average wheels. The Aeron Chair comes in four different color schemes: Graphite/Polished Aluminum; White/Satin Aluminum; White/Polished Aluminum; Graphite/Graphite. The chair also comes in three different sizes in order to accommodate users from the 1st to the 99th percentile (Dimensions stated in the table above are the Size B – medium specifications).
Technology
Both chairs feature their own unique and trademarked technologies.

Created specifically for X-Chair, SciFloat Infinite Recline technology helps your body stay in motion throughout the day and can be adjusted to match your specific bodyweight so that movement is effortless. Motion improves concentration, circulation, and energy levels so that you can enjoy boosted productivity and comfort in the workplace. X-Chair’s X2 also features the Dynamic Variable Lumbar (DVL) support that intuitively adjusts itself to your body every time you move. The DVL support responds to your weight, height, position, and the amount of pressure you put on it. The DVL Support pivots with you, keeping you comfortable and supported without ever making an adjustment to your chair even as you change positions throughout the day.
Aeron features their own PostureFit SL technology. This encourages users to sit with their shoulders back, pelvis tilted slightly forward and chest open, which is the ideal sitting position in most conditions. To achieve balance of ergonomics and comfort, the Aeron chair includes adjustable pads that stabilize the base of your spine and provides great lumbar support. Aeron also features a forward tilt, a feature that is quite rare in other ergonomic chairs. This allows for a wider range of positions the user can get into while working.
Ergonomic Adjustments
Both chairs offer a vast array of ergonomic adjustments, however, the X2 has more ergonomic adjustments than the Aeron Chair.

The X2 Has a total of 10 ergonomic adjustments: Dynamic Variable Lumbar (DVL) Support; Recline; Tilt Tension; Tilt Lock; Backrest Height; Seat Height; Seat Depth; Headrest Height; Headrest Angle; Armrests. Often, this chair earns perfect marks on chair feature ranks.
The Aeron Chair has 9 ergonomic adjustments: Lumbar Depth; Lumbar Height; Tilt Limiter; Forward Tilt; PostureFit® Adjustment; Tilt Tension; Arm Angle; Arm Height; Seat Height. Aeron does not have some adjustments that most other ergonomic chairs offer, like the seat depth, back height, and arm width (but these are solved by the sizing options).
Verdict
The X2 is more affordable and versatile, but the Aeron Chair is a more individualized investment.
Both chairs are well-made, breathable, and quite popular among office workers, but they definitely have their differing strengths. The X-Chair X2 K-Sport Management Chair is the ideal chair for settings such as shared workspaces. Given its versatility and wider adjustment options, a single X2 chair can sit more types of people comfortably, than the Herman Miller Aeron Chair. That does not, however, put the Aeron at a disadvantage. It simply means that it is a bit more individualized, as opposed to having a one-size-fits-all function. This means that the Aeron Chair is more tailored to a certain individual, greatly boosting their productivity and long-term comfort. This makes it perfect for a home office or individual workspace.
Both chairs are great on their own and either one will be a great choice. The X2 is more budget-friendly, but the Aeron chair is very much worth the splurge.
