Design & Ease of Use

Unlike the SoClean 2, PrimeClean has a smaller footprint and doesn’t require an adapter

PrimeClean is more travel-friendly than the SoClean 2

As the more compact and lighter CPAP cleaner, PrimeClean is more versatile than the SoClean 2 as you can easily take it with you when you’re traveling. It measures 4.6″ x 2.4″ and weighs .5 lbs, significantly smaller and lighter than the SoClean 2 that weighs 7 lbs and measures 11″ x 11″ x 13″. It’s battery-operated, too. The PrimeClean Machine comes with a sanitizing bag where you’ll place your CPAP equipment. You simply connect the hose to the PrimeClean machine, start the device, and it will automatically clean for 30 minutes and turn off when it’s done.

On the other hand, the SoClean 2 requires an adapter so you can connect the CPAP hose to the machine. If you want to clean the water chamber and the CPAP machine, you’ll need an adapter to do so. Adapters for ResMed S9, ResMed AirSense 10, and Philips Respironics DreamStation CPAP machines come with the SoClean 2. If your CPAP machine is not one of those, you can get still get an adapter online. Having said that, sanitizing your CPAP mask and hose is still a breeze on the SoClean 2 as you don’t have to disassemble your CPAP equipment and it lets you program a specific cleaning schedule so it will clean on its own.

Sanitizing Performance

PrimeClean and SoClean sanitize your CPAP equipment through ozone (activated oxygen)

PrimeClean vs soclean (3)PrimeClean uses a sanitizing bag while SoClean uses a cartridge filter inside its sanitizing chamber

Since CPAP machines for treating sleep apnea have moist areas, mold, germs, and similar harmful microorganisms can grow in your CPAP equipment if not sanitized regularly. Failing to do so can lead to respiratory issues as you may end up breathing in some of these pathogens. To kill these germs, PrimeClean and SoClean use activated oxygen, or ozone, that is known to kill 99.9% of germs on surfaces.

While ozone can effectively sanitize your CPAP equipment, it emits an unpleasant smell. This is normal, but make sure you wait for at least two hours before using your CPAP again after disinfecting them using PrimeClean or the SoClean 2. By then, the smell will be gone or at least not be as strong as when freshly sanitized.

Just a caveat that while SoClean advertises that you can use it to clean your CPAP machine, doing so may void manufacturer’s warranty. This is not a problem if your CPAP machine is already out of warranty, but make sure to check with your CPAP manufacturer first before using ozone to disinfect your machine. Nonetheless, you can still use the SoClean 2 to disinfect the mask, hose, and other parts that can fit in its sanitizing chamber.

Maintenance & Warranty

PrimeClean offers a 1-year warranty while the SoClean 2 has a warranty of up to 2 years

You’ll need to replace the SoClean 2’s filter at least once or twice a year, depending on your usage

A major difference between PrimeClean and the SoClean 2 is maintenance. PrimeClean doesn’t have a filter that you need to change, unlike the SoClean 2. With SoClean, you’ll need to replace the filter at least every six months, although that can be longer if you don’t use it as often.

Both companies offer a free return and refund within 30 days of purchase if you’re not satisfied with the CPAP cleaning system. However, PrimeClean has received many complaints about its delivery not arriving on time. Some even complain it took more than 30 days for the machine to be delivered. Also, the 30-day free return starts as soon as they ship out the machine. If it doesn’t arrive on your doorstep within 30 days and you end up deciding it’s not for you, you can’t return it anymore.

SoClean’s warranty is longer than PrimeClean’s, too. You can get up to a two-year manufacturer’s warranty with SoClean while PrimeClean only offers one year.

Verdict

While PrimeClean sounds good on paper, SoClean is the more reliable brand

PrimeClean is more affordable, more compact, and slightly easier to use than the SoClean 2. However, as good as it sounds on paper, we have to recommend the SoClean 2 over PrimeClean as the latter has received plenty of complaints. Their warranty and customer support is nowhere near as good as SoClean’s as well.
