Both the Anker Soundcore Motion Boom and the JBL Xtreme 2 are completely waterproof.
Thanks to its rectangular shape and handle up top, the Anker Soundcore Motion Boom kind of looks like a boombox. But it’s not showy at all, its all-black design giving it a classy and subdued look. Behind its front-facing grille are two full-range titanium drivers and at both of its ends are the passive bass radiators that add depth to its sound. Right above the grille, you’ll find a simple control panel and at the back is the connections panel. The Soundcore Motion Boom weighs in at 4.4lbs.
As for the JBL Xtreme 2, it has a cylindrical shape that’s very reminiscent of other popular JBL models. While it doesn’t have a handle like the Soundcore Motion Boom, it does have two built-in carabiners that can be used with the included strap. As for colors, it comes in more options such as black, green, and blue. Behind its front-facing grill are the dual 20mm drivers that are responsible for throwing sound forward. As for the 2.75-inch passive bass radiators, they’re located at both ends of the speaker. The Xtreme 2 is slightly heavier at 5.3lbs.
While the Soundcore Motion Boom and the Xtreme 2 look quite different, one thing they have in common is that they’re both completely waterproof with an IPX7 rating. This means that they can be submerged in water for up to a meter for 30 minutes. You might also find it pretty neat that the Soundcore Motion Boom can float, making it perfect for pool parties.
Both the Anker Soundcore Motion Boom and the JBL Xtreme 2 deliver a powerful bass performance.
The Anker Soundcore Motion Boom comes with a Bass Boost feature but it doesn’t actually boost the bass but rather just turns it on and off. When the Bass Boost is turned off, the drivers have no power at all and sound hollow, tinny, and not at all pleasant. Fortunately, all you have to do is enable the Bass Boost and you’ve got yourself a well-balanced sound. When listening to bass-heavy tracks, there’s a lot of depth to be enjoyed which is impressive for such a compact and affordable speaker. The best part is that you can crank the volume all the way up and the audio won’t distort.
As for the JBL Xtreme 2, bass lovers will get a kick out of it too as it’s able to deliver a low-frequency performance that’s comparable to a subwoofer’s. This is extra impressive because just like the Soundcore Motion Boom, its woofers are passive and not powered radiators. Also, there’s no distortion at maximum volume which is amazing because the Xtreme 2 can get very loud. It’s likely, however, that DSP is used to slightly dilute the bass at top volumes but it’s not too noticeable. If you want to experience the bass at its full strength, it’s best to listen at moderate volumes.
While both the Soundcore Motion Boom and the Xtreme 2 have a very satisfying bass performance, they definitely don’t have an accurate sound signature. So if you’re a purist when it comes to music, you might not like their boosted and sculpted sound.
Mic and Battery

Also, it’s able to make up for this with its 24-hour battery life. With the Xtreme 2, you can only get up to 15 hours of playback time.
