Zojirushi’s BB-PDC20 has a simpler design compared to Cuisinart’s CBK-200.

The Zojirushi BB-PDC20 is a high-end bread machine for making two-pound loaves good for 2-5 people. It boasts stainless steel construction, brandishes a black finish, and weighs 24 pounds. While not exactly lightweight, the heft reflects the bread maker’s solid build. This works in Zojirushi’s favor, too, as the machine runs on 700-watts of power and employs dual paddles for kneading.

A tad bit smaller yet considerably lighter than the Zojirushi, Cuisinart’s CBK-200 convection bread maker isn’t any less sturdy. The bread machine also sports a brushed stainless steel exterior and features metal snaps to secure its lid in place. Cuisinart’s baking chamber is squarish compared to Zojirushi’s, which is narrower and longer. Nonetheless, the CBK-200 offers a bit more versatility in that you can make 1, 1.5, or 2-pound bread.

When it comes to design, the Zojirushi is austere with its smooth exterior, all-black top, and recessed handles. The list of bread you can make using the machine is neatly written on the lid as well. Cuisinart’s CBK-200, on the other hand, looks more industrial. The bread machine’s lid has ridges and thick black bezels, while its body has an embossed Cuisinart logo. With the Zojirushi BB-PDC20 and the Cuisinart CBK-200, making bread is largely at your fingertips. Both bread makers come with control panels to manage and start the bread-making process. On the Zojirushi, the LCD shows all the functions in use. The screen also displays the time left before your loaf is ready to be served. Cuisinart’s bread maker comes with a well-laid-out control panel, too. The CBK-200 features a display window, too, although it isn’t backlit like the Zojirushi’s.

One noticeable difference between the Cuisinart bread maker from the Zojirushi is the presence of a Mix-ins Button. This component uses an audible signal to alert users when to ‘mix-in’ extra ingredients like fruits or nuts. With the button, users can turn the feature off easily. The Zojirushi BB-PDC20 also alerts users to mix additional ingredients at a point in time but doesn’t have a physical key to switch it off. Unlike the Breville Custom Loaf, however, both Zojirushi and Cuisinart bread makers lack an automatic mix-in dispenser.

There are a few other shared features between the two brands. Zojirushi and Cuisinart’s bread makers come with a delay timer. This is useful if you need to rest your dough first or prepare bread for a later time. You can also adjust your bread’s crust color based on three levels. Because of the rather long and narrow shape of its bread pan, the Zojirushi BB-PDC20 makes use of dual paddles for kneading. However, this also means the machine is particularly good at handling dense flours. The only downside to this setup is that users will have to remove both paddles before baking starts unless you’re okay with holes on your bread. Conveniences aside, it’s hard to find a machine like the Zojirushi BB-PDC20 that delivers an evenly textured loaf consistently.

The Cuisinart CBK-200 isn’t too far off when it comes to performance. But since it’s lighter, the bread maker can be noisy while mixing and kneading dough. Some users have also shared there’s an occasional need for extra kneading outside of what’s programmed. Where it does have a distinct advantage over the Zojirushi is loaf-sizes. While a 2-pound loaf is nice, some users may prefer smaller bread. On the Cuisinart CBK-299, you can make 1- or 1.5-pound loves quite handily.

In terms of baking, Cuisinart delivers a pretty reliable baking cycle. The machine makes use of convection to circulate hot air inside the baking chamber. This means all sides of your bread are evenly cooked. There are cases, however, when the crust does come out burnt, especially when opting for a medium or dark crust color. As a workaround, users need to be more precise when measuring ingredients. Zojirushi’s bread maker also delivers an evenly brown loaf. This is thanks to dual heaters on the bottom and the lid of the BB-PDC20.

Having said that, the Zojirushi BB-PDC20 offers a slightly less complicated way of making your own bread. While its control panel isn’t as intuitive as Cuisinart’s, programming settings are hardly cumbersome. The user manual lays out the parts of the machine clearly, and instructions for bread recipes are straightforward.

The Cuisinart CBK-200 is also fairly easy to use. Since it doesn’t offer any custom settings, you just have to mix in the ingredients and let the machine do its job. Users, however, might find it hard to fasten the metal snaps that secure the bread pan to the baking chamber. The CBK-200’s LCD isn’t backlit, too, which makes reading the parameters harder in poor lighting conditions.

Both the Zojirushi BB-PDC20 and Cuisinart CBK-200 require little effort to assemble and clean. The body of the machines only needs some wiping with a damp cloth, too. Meanwhile, the non-stick coating of their bread pans means taking out your homemade bread and cleaning the leftover crumbs is a breeze.
