Both are set at attractive price points and boast plug-and-play set up, but how will the new Blink Mini fare against the trusted Wyze Cam? Read our in-depth comparison to find out.

Design and Installation

The Wyze Cam and the Blink Mini indoor camera have similar aesthetics and require a power source

These indoor smart cameras can be mounted in different ways

As some of the smallest indoor cameras in the market, the Wyze Cam and the Blink Mini can be installed easily anywhere in the home. Their small footprint makes them versatile security cameras that can either stand upright or mounted on ceilings and walls. While they are almost the same size, the Blink Mini is slightly slimmer than the Wyze. Its matching white frame and base further give the Blink a more premium look.

Both the Wyze and the Blink look sleek and modern and they only come in a white finish. The cube-shaped Wyze has sharper angles while the Blink sports a curvier profile. As the Wyze Cam boasts a 3-axis design, you can tilt the camera at different angles that best cover your floor plan. As they are both designed for indoor use, they are not weatherproof. They also need to be connected to a power source all the time for them to work, something different from other Blink cameras such as the Blink XT2 Indoor/Outdoor Camera. As for the Wyze, there are outdoor mounts available from third-party sellers that better protects the Cam, even for indoor use.

Video Quality

Both the Wyze Cam can capture 1080p videos at 15fps while the Blink Mini indoor camera can shoot at 1080p at 30fps

Monitor your home 24/7 with the Wyze’s and the Blink’s high-resolution cameras

The Wyze Cam and the Blink Mini can record 1080p HD videos at 15fps and 30fps, respectively. As the Blink Mini can shoot at more frames per second than the Wyze, there’s a bit less motion blur in its videos. Both deliver clear video quality, but the Wyze Cam features 8x digital zoom, something you can’t do on the Blink Mini.

The Wyze Cam and the Blink Mini indoor cameras offer 110° field of vision which is enough for most small to medium-sized rooms. They also offer night vision captures through their infrared LEDs so they can detect motion even at night. The Wyze Cam comes with a time-lapse feature that lets you set the smart camera to take time-lapse videos.

Audio Quality

Both the Wyze Cam and the Blink Mini offer two-way audio

Through their tap to talk feature, you can talk through the Wyze and the Blink’s built-in speakers

The audio output of these indoor cameras is wanting, but for their price, their audio does a decent job of projecting your voice through their tiny speakers. Their two-way audio feature lets you communicate to whoever’s on the other end of the camera no matter where you are through tapping the “Talk” button in their apps.

As for the audio quality of the recordings, the Wyze Cam offers great quality audio as it blocks off ambient sound well. However, this sometimes results in the audio sounding tinny at times. If the audio quality on the Blink XT2 is an indicator, the Blink Mini will also deliver clear audio in its footage.

Motion Sensor

Both the Wyze Cam and the Blink Mini can detect motion and let you set motion zones

You will get alerted when the Wyze and the Blink detect motion

The motion sensors equipped in the Wyze Cam and the Blink Mini detect different types of movements well. They also let you customize the motion zones, but the Wyze Cam only lets you set one motion zone. In contrast, the Blink lets you activate specific areas that you want to remain “active” or “inactive.” For instances where your indoor camera can capture the window area, you can deactivate the frames where there are leaves or trees so you won’t get alerted whenever they move.

Whenever their motion sensors are triggered, both the Wyze Cam and the Blink Mini will send you a motion notification. The notification speed is crucial in certain circumstances and the more instantaneous, the better. The Wyze Cam’s motion alerts tend to have a delay of 15 to 35 seconds after it detects motion. For faster motion alerts, you can bundle the Wyze Cam with the Wyze Sense motion sensor.

Blink cameras typically send notifications within 1 to 3 seconds when they work. However, some users have reported significant lags in their Blink devices. Blink is now offering a cloud storage option for the Blink Mini, so hopefully, this addresses the latency issues in older Blink cameras.

Additional Features

The Wyze Cam offers free cloud storage and supports external storage while the Blink Mini comes with a free trial for the Blink Plan until December 2020

Both the Wyze and the Blink can be used with Amazon Alexa

A noteworthy feature of the Wyze Cam and the Blink Mini is they are plug and play and don’t require a separate hub or base for them to work. Both the Wyze Cam and the Blink Mini indoor cameras are compatible with Amazon Alexa. If you use Google Assistant, the Wyze Cam is your safer bet. Since Blink is an Amazon company, it is unsure whether they’ll offer Google Home connectivity for the Blink Mini in the future.

To keep the cost of your smart home security system as low as possible, the Wyze Cam comes with a free rolling 14-day cloud storage and a slot that supports up to 32GB microSD cards. If you opt for the free cloud storage though, the Wyze will only upload 12-second clips whereas using the microSD card lets you record continuously. Another helpful feature of the Wyze is its Smart Sound alert that notifies you when your smoke or carbon monoxide detector goes off.

Meanwhile, the Blink Mini comes with a free trial of the Blink Plan which lasts until December 2020. In January 2021, the monthly subscription for Blink’s cloud storage will cost 3USD/month for every camera or 10 USD for unlimited devices in the household. Blink is set to release the Blink Sync Module 2 which will let the Blink Mini record footage without the need for a monthly subscription.

Verdict

The Wyze Cam gives better bang for your buck

Amazon product

While both are budget-friendly smart indoor cameras, our favor tips for the more affordable Wyze Cam. There’s not a lot of difference between the Wyze Cam and the Blink Mini as they both offer great video and audio quality and their motion detection work well. While their motion notification speed is wanting, Wyze offers a Wyze Cam + Sense Starter Kit bundle so you can get instantaneous motion alerts for only a couple of dollars more. In addition, Wyze is not exclusive to Amazon Alexa and the Wyze Cam can work with other smart assistants as well.
