Theragun vs Amazon Knockoff (2021): Comparing The High-End Theragun PRO And The Popular Knockoff The Legiral Le3 Massage Guns

The Theragun PRO is one of the most popular massage guns on the market. It is endorsed by a number of top athletes around the world (Paul George, Amanda Anisimova, Collin Morikawa) and is known for its effective deep tissue massages. With such a premium product also comes a premium price. Because of the steep price, many are forced to find alternatives, which has resulted in a vast number of knockoffs coming out. The Legiral Le3 is one such knockoff that has become surprisingly popular among online shoppers.

This raises the question about whether the Theragun PRO’s performance and features justify its heavy price tag, or if it is at par with the Legiral Le3, which costs a fraction of the price of the Theragun. In this article, we’re going to stack the Thereagun PRO and Legiral Le3 up against each other to answer that question and help you decide which is the better option.

Build & Design

The Theragun PRO has the edge over the Legiral Le3 in terms of build & design with better build quality and an ergonomic design

Starting off with the Theragun PRO, if you take a close look at the machine you can tell that it is very well made. Everything is fitted together with precision and it feels solid in your hands. It is quite chunky and weighs 2.9 pounds. The exterior is made mostly from durable smooth plastic with textured plastic running along the outside of the device. The Theragun PRO sports the patented Theragun Triangle ergonomic handle which allows you to massage yourself in various angles while reducing strain on your hands, wrists, and arms.

The Theragun PRO’s rotating arm design allows you even more massage angles by letting you rotate the massage arm in four different positions. The Theragun PRO features an OLED display, which displays battery life, massage speed, and a force meter. You also get a few control buttons below the display. The simple design of the display and buttons adds to the Theragun PRO’s premium look. At the other end of the device, on the massage arm, attachments are attached and remove simply by pushing them in and pulling them out. A little ball pin at the tip of the massage arm locks the attachments in place. The Theragun PRO doesn’t have a removable handle battery pack. Instead, the battery is inserted into the handle like inserting an ammunition magazine.

The Legiral Le3, on the other hand, sports a common pistol-shape design which is found on most massage guns. It has a removable battery pack handle with a green LED indicator that goes around the bottom of the handle and an on/off switch right under, an exhaust fan at the top, an attachment socket in the front, and an LED display and touch-sensitive buttons at the back of the machine. In terms of build quality, the massage gun actually feels pretty solid considering its low price. It doesn’t feel as premium as the Theragun PRO, but with its added weight (4.1 lbs), it does feel durable enough to last you a while. Most of it is made from ABS plastic with a carbon fiber looking exterior and a rubber battery grip.

Performance

The Theragun PRO packs more power with its QX150 motor while the Legiral Le3 has more effective sound reduction technology

The Theragun PRO (left) and Legiral Le3 (right) motors

The Theragun PRO is known to be a more percussive massage gun than a vibration massage gun. This is a result of its deeper amplitude, slower speeds, and stronger force. Amplitude on the Theragun PRO is 16mm, which means that the massaging shaft extends and retracts 16mm from the machine. With a 16mm amplitude, the Theragun PRO massages 60% deeper than the average massage gun. The Theragun PRO has five built-in scientifically calibrated speeds from 1750 to 2400 percussions per minute to help you massage sensitive areas or get the full power of the device.

If you want custom speeds, you can connect the massage gun to your phone via Bluetooth and tweak the speed settings on the Therabody App. The Theragun PRO delivers up to 60 pounds of force without stalling. This results in better circulation and tension release. With QuietForce technology on its brushless motor, the Theragun PRO claims to be 55% quieter than previous models. But when put to the test, the Theragun PRO is quite loud.

The Legiral Le3 comes with 20 different speed settings from 1200 all the way to 3200 percussions per minute. The slower speeds at level 1-4 are designed to arouse your muscles, 5-8 are for fascia relaxation, 9-12 for decomposing lactic acid, and speeds 13-20 are perfect for deep tissue massages and professional use. The Legiral Le3 has the same depth, or amplitude, as the Theragun PRO, which is supposed to give you better deep tissue massages.

However, it has a maximum force of only 30 pounds, which is only half the amount of force the Theragun PRO delivers. You’re still getting great massages with the Le3, but not quite as powerful as the Theragun. That being said, the Legiral Le3 is much quieter compared to the Theragun PRO, which allows you to use it almost anywhere without causing a disturbance.

Battery

The Legiral Le3 has a bigger battery that gives you 6 hours massage time while the Theragun PRO gives you only 5 hours using two swappable battery packs

Battery life on massage guns is highly important. You wouldn’t want your machine to die on you mid-massage. With the Theragun PRO, you’re getting two 16V swappable rechargeable lithium-ion batteries that will give you a toal of 5 hours continuous massage time. You can charge your batteries with the supplied battery pack charger or charge them inside the Theragun PRO using any Qi-certified wireless charger.

The Legiral Le3 comes with a bigger 2500mAh rechargeable battery. Claiming a total of 6 hours of continuous use. The Legiral battery pack is removable and can be replaced. To charge the battery, simply attach the supplied wall charger to the bottom of the battery pack.

Both the Theragun PRO and Legiral Le3 come with six different massage attachments. The Theragun comes with a dampener for tender and bony areas, a standard ball attachment for general massaging, a wedge for scraping or flushing muscles, a thumb attachment for trigger points especially on the lower back, a cone for pinpointing muscles, and their latest addition, the Supersoft attachment, which is used mostly for very sensitive areas. The Supersoft attachment is the only attachment made from foam instead of hard plastic.

On the other hand, the Legiral Le3 comes with two ball attachments in different sizes, a bullet attachment for pintpointng small muscles, a fork attachment for delicate areas, and two flat-head attachments which are great for all-around massages.

Verdict

The reliability of the Theragun PRO makes it perfect for professionals while the Legiral Le3 gives better value for money for everyone else

Amazon product

Without considering price tags, the Theragun PRO is the winner for us in this comparison. It has a much better build quality, a more powerful and reliable motor, a better ergonomic design, Bluetooth capabilities, customizable speeds, and wireless charging. The Legiral Le3 also has its strengths like its longer battery life, 20 built-in frequency settings, and quiet motor, but we believe they’re not enough to beat the Theragun PRO.

However, it’s a different story when the price tags of these massage guns are taken into consideration. The Theragun PRO sells for around four times the price of the Legiral Le3. With that big of a price gap, you may be wondering if the Theragun PRO is really worth it. We believe that the Theragun PRO is worth it as an investment for professionals in the field of physical therapy.

Professionals need equipment that will aid in their profession and can be relied on to do its job for hours a day almost every single day for years. The Theragun PRO is built for that kind of work. For everyone else, the Legiral Le3 provides better value for money. It comes with enough features and function to be the perfect massage gun for everyday personal use.
