Both Sportneer and Theragun offer massage guns for athletes and fitness enthusiasts, but their offerings sit at different price points. The Sportneer Elite D9 is one of the most affordable massage guns in the market, whereas Theragun’s most standard percussion massager, the Theragun Prime, is on the more expensive side. If you are in the market for a massage device, do you go with the cheaper Sportneer? Or do you pay more for a more established brand like Theragun? Here is our Theragun and Sportneer review and comparison.

The Theragun Prime has a more ergonomic design than the Sportneer Elite D9.
When you look at these two devices, it’s easy to determine which is which, primarily due to the design of the Theragun Prime. Instead of the standard massage gun design, wherein the motor and shaft are housed in a horizontal casing and then connected to a vertical handle, Theragun opted for a more ergonomic triangle handle for their massage guns. As a result, their percussive massagers have a distinct look that separate them from the competition.
On the other hand, the Sportneer D9 has a more standard massage gun design. There’s nothing wrong with this design as it is very effective, it just doesn’t let it stand out from the rest. When it comes to ergonomics, both are very good. The Sportneer D9 has an angled handle that’s easy on the wrist, while the Theragun Prime allows for several ways to grip the handle to target areas of the body that are hard to reach.
Both percussive devices are also lightweight, with the Sportneer D9 weighing 2.3lbs and the Theragun Prime weighing 2.2lbs. While they aren’t the lightest in the market, they are still lightweight enough that you won’t get fatigued while using them. The two are great when it comes to ease of use and ergonomics, but we have to give the advantage to the Theragun Prime due to its superior handle.
The Sportneer Elite D9 comes with more attachment heads.
These massage guns come with various attachment heads for different areas/muscle groups. The Sportneer Elite D9 comes with six massage heads—ball, fork, flat, bullet, metal flat and metal ball. In comparison, the Theragun Prime only comes with four—dampener, ball, thumb and cone. Both devices also come with a carrying case and a charger.
Having more attachment heads is definitely an advantage for the Sportneer D9. Having an extra fork attachment allows you to use the Sportneer D9 on bony areas of the body, and the two metal heads are great for using the massage gun with oils and lotions. The Theragun Prime does not have an equivalent attachment head to these.
Another advantage that the Sportneer D9 has is that it has more speed settings (6 vs 5). That said, the Theragun Prime does have a companion app that allows you to customize the speed level to your preference. Also, the Theragun Prime has a higher stall force and amplitude, both of which are important when it comes to intense massages.
The Sportneer Elite D9 has a longer battery life, but the Theragun Prime can deliver more intense massages.
The two most important factors to a massage gun’s performance and ability to give deep tissue massages are stall force and amplitude. Stall force is the amount of force applied before the device stalls and amplitude is simply the travel distance of the massage head. In both cases, the Theragun Prime trumps the Sportneer Elite D9.
The Theragun Prime has an amplitude of 16mm and a stall force of 30lbs. In contrast, the Sportneer Elite D9 has an amplitude of 11mm and a stall force of around 20-22lbs. The Theragun Prime can give you more intense massages due to having a higher stall force and amplitude. The Sportneer Elite D9’s faster speed level does not mean much in this regard.
As for battery life, the Sportneer Elite D9 has the advantage. It has a runtime of 2-6 hours, depending on the speed level that you use. On the other hand, the Theragun Prime only has a runtime of up to 2 hours, which is very short when compared to the Sportneer Elite D9.
For those on a budget, get the Sportneer Elite D9, but for those that want intense deep tissue massages, get the Theragun Prime.
The Sportneer Elite D9 is a decent massage gun for the price. It’s not designed to give you intense massages, but for relaxation, it will do the job. For intense deep tissue massages, get the Theragun Prime. It’s more expensive but it can be worth it if you are looking to get an ergonomic percussive device with excellent performance.
The Theragun PRO is the best massage gun from the brand. It has a higher stall force, it comes with more attachment heads and it has an extra battery for a longer runtime.
A percussion massage gun is worth it if you are constantly experiencing muscle tightness.
Sportneer is not as well-known as Theragun, but they do offer some of the best budget massage guns in the market with decent to good performance.
Yes, you can use it daily but you shouldn’t focus on one muscle group for extended periods.
