SodaStream is a brand that is top of mind when it comes to soda makers. This is not surprising at all because it has been in the market for many decades now. Over the years, there have been so many changes in company ownership. But the fact still remains that SodaStream has become the world’s biggest home carbonation system. There are already countless of SodaStream reviews online but we’re here to compare four of their popular models in the market today. While the SodaStream Fizzi emerged as our top choice, you may still consider checking whether the three other machines deserve a spot in your kitchen.

SodaStream Jet

The SodaStream Jet is the oldest model in this review.

sodastream jet
The SodaStream Jet is manually operated and can only use the classic 1L bottle.

The oldest model of the four soda makers we are featuring in this article is the SodaStream Jet. As with other SodaStream reviews, it is referred to as the classic SodaStream machine. Its body is made of plastic and it’s lightweight and portable as it doesn’t require electricity to operate. You will only have to push a button to trigger carbonation. If you want a harder soda, you can push the button a couple more times.

Like other SodaStream machines, it has a back panel where the CO2 cylinder is inserted and a slot in front so the bottle can be screwed into the carbonator part. But when compared to the later models, the Jet’s design looks bulky and outdated. Moreover, another difference of the SodaStream with other later models is its twist-lock connector which will have you screwing the bottle into the carbonator until it locks. This is the reason why this machine can only use the classic SodaStream bottle.

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Simple to operate
  • No electricity or batteries required
  • Lightweight

Cons

  • Manual carbonation means possibility of over-carbonating
  • Only compatible with SodaStream Classic 1L bottles
  • Plastic bottle is not dishwasher-safe
  • Twist-lock bottle connection type needs effort

SodaStream Fizzi

The SodaStream Fizzi is the upgraded SodaStream Jet in terms of build and design.

sodastream fizzi
The SodaStream Fizzi has a sleeker and more modern build compared to the SodaStream Jet.

Like the Jet, the SodaStream Fizzi is manually operated. The carbonation level is set by the number of times you push the carbonator button. (Note that you can only push up to five times.) Even the dimensions and weight are almost the same.

But probably the most obvious difference between the two is the Fizzi’s design. SodaStream made it more aesthetically pleasing by avoiding the bulky curves of the SodaStream Jet. The bottle connection is upgraded by having a snap lock mechanism in place, too. This gave the machine the flexibility to accept not only the slim 1L bottle but also the older classic bottles and the small 500mL bottles.

Pros

  • Affordable
  • No electricity or batteries required
  • Snap lock bottle connector
  • Modern design
  • Available in 6 colors
  • Compatible with classic and slim bottles

Cons

  • Manual carbonation
  • Plastic bottle is not dishwasher-safe

SodaStream Fizzi One Touch

Consistency is SodaStream Fizzy One Touch’s biggest advantage.

sodastream fizzi one touch
The SodaStream Fizzi One Touch is almost identical with the SodaStream Fizzi.

The SodaStream Fizzi was so warmly welcomed by SodaStream fans that the company launched its electric version, the Fizzi One Touch, two years after its launch. Not too much has changed in terms of design and build except that the single carbonator button in the Fizzi was replaced with three buttons. Each button is labeled to indicate low, medium, and high levels of carbonation.

This newer version is naturally better when it comes to carbonation. By having automated presets, guesswork and over-carbonation is avoided. Simply put, CO2 is used efficiently so a 60L cylinder can actually serve 60 liters of sparkling water.

Pros

  • Automatic carbonation levels
  • Snap-lock bottle connection
  • Compatible with classic and slim bottles

Cons

  • Needs electricity to operate
  • Pricier than the older models
  • Plastic bottle is not dishwasher-safe

SodaStream Aqua Fizz

Sophistication is what makes the SodaStream Aqua Fizz special.

sodastream aqua fizz
The SodaStream Aqua Fizz is a total eye candy with its plastic and metal body, and compatible glass carafes.

If there’s a SodaStream soda maker beauty contest, we believe that the SodaStream Aqua Fizz will be the runaway winner. Its design is so classy and sophisticated as its body is made of glossy black plastic and shiny aluminum metal. Even the glass carafes add a touch of luxury to the Aqua Fizz. And while it still has a back slot for the CO2 tank like the other SodaStream models, the front slot for the soda bottle is now concealed.

The way the Aqua Fizz is opened is pretty cool, too. Once the switch is turned, the top plastic part lifts slowly by itself and the metal bucket part opens up and that’s where the glass carafe is placed. After putting the bucket back in place and lowering the top part, pressing the button will start the carbonation process. As with the Jet and the Fizzi, you can increase carbonation by pressing the button a few more times.

Pros

  • More sophisticated plastic and metal design
  • Bottle is securely inserted into the machine
  • Uses glass carafes that are dishwasher-friendly
  • Easier to clean

Cons

  • Pricier that other SodaStream machines
  • Still uses manual carbonation
  • Glass carafe is only 600mL

Reasons To Love SodaStream

Even with new and more affordable soda maker brands, SodaStream still dominates the home sparkling drink making scene.

SodaStream made sure that their consumers have everything they need for a fun soda making experience at home.

SodaStream soda makers have come a long way from being a lavish toy of the rich in the UK to a staple kitchen appliance of health-conscious individuals. With more affordable machines available, it has now become easier to create sparkling water at home with SodaStream.

Aside from making drinking water fun and bubbly, we have rounded up a few more reasons for you to consider purchasing your own SodaStream machine:

  • Save money by creating your own sparkling water and creating your own bubbly beverages at home. SodaStream flavored syrups are so affordable, yet potent, that you will need only around 3/4 teaspoon per liter. A few drops will go a long way.
  • You help cut down the use of single-use plastic. You’ll only need to use the SodaStream bottle every time and, though made of plastic, it is durable and will last for years.
  • You can customize the fizziness of your water. Soda lovers have different preferences and using a SodaStream soda maker gives you control on how soft or hard your soda will be.
  • SodaStream bottles are made of BPA-free plastic. Be careful in choosing generic soda makers and carbonating bottles that may be made of toxic plastic.
  • SodaStream has an efficient Mail Gas Exchange program with attractive rebates. You get to save more on shipping when you exchange empty SodaStream CO2 gas tanks for new ones.

Pretty and stylish

Hands-down, any SodaStream machine will be a great investment for your kitchen. Then again, after carefully checking each model, we believe that each one has its own strengths and weaknesses. Your choice will then depend on whether you value affordability over special features.

Finally, of the four SodaStream soda makers we featured in this article, we highly recommend theSodaStream Fizzi as the best among the lot. It’s affordable and its design is pleasing enough to fit in any classic or modern kitchen counter. Most of all, it’s very easy to use and is compatible with any plastic SodaStream bottle. The SodaStream Fizzi One Touch comes as the next best contender as it is almost the Fizzi’s twin. However, what held us back is the fact that it can’t be used without electricity so you can’t use it during trips off-grid.

FAQs

๐Ÿ“Œ Where are SodaStream machines manufactured?

SodaStream was founded in the UK but has been manufactured and distributed in Israel since 1978.

๐Ÿ“Œ How many liters of soda can I make with one SodaStream gas tank?

One SodaStream cylinder is good for 60L of carbonated beverages. However, this may become less depending on how often you trigger the machine to fizz your beverage. Some consumers prefer a harder soda and press the button 3-5 times.

๐Ÿ“Œ Why can’t I use other juices or any other beverage with SodaStream machines?

Clogging of the carbonator tube is most likely to happen when you carbonate liquids other than water. This may void the product warranty.

๐Ÿ“Œ Why is it better to carbonate filtered water?

Filtered water is better for fizzing because the process of carbonation often highlights the taste of minerals in water.
