Design

Looks-wise, the only difference between the Skullcandy Sesh and Sesh Evo is that the latter is bulkier.

skullcandy sesh vs sesh evo design
The Skullcandy Sesh (left) and the Skullcandy Sesh Evo (right) have the same shape and form factor.

These two earbuds have the same form factor and shape, but the Skullcandy Sesh Evo true wireless earbuds are a little bit bulkier, so they will stick out from your ear more. The stems on these earbuds are on the shorter side and they won’t go in too deep into your ear canal, making them comfortable to wear even on longer listening sessions. Both earbuds come with three pairs of ear tips to accommodate different ear canal sizes. Choosing the right ear tips will result in better sound and comfort.

Both earbuds come with an IP55 rating, which means that they are water and dust resistant. These earbuds are suitable for working out, running, and any other outdoor or indoor activity that will make you sweat. As far as durability goes, the Skullcandy Sesh and Skullcandy Sesh Evo earbuds have a solid build.

The charging cases of these earbuds also feature the same style and form factor. Both cases have a sturdy build that can take some beating without suffering damage. They are also small enough that they can fit inside pockets. That said, the case of the Skullcandy Sesh Evo is slightly wider and taller.

You can get the Skullcandy Sesh earbuds in black, yellow, green, moab red, indigo blue and rainbow colors, while the Skullcandy Sesh Evo wireless earbuds are available in true black, blue, chill grey, deep red, bleached blue and pure mint colors.

Features

The Skullcandy Sesh Evo true wireless earbuds have more features than the Skullcandy Sesh.

skullcandy sesh vs sesh evo features
Aside from the branding inside, the cases of the Skullcandy Sesh (left) and Skullcandy Sesh Evo (right) are similar.

Some of the features that you get with the Skullcandy Sesh Evo that you won’t get with the Skullcandy Sesh are the following: Tile tracking, left and right solo earbud use and EQ presets. With Tile tracking, you can locate the Skullcandy Sesh Evo earbuds if ever you misplace them. You can download the Tile app and there are instructions there on how you can use them with the Skullcandy Sesh Evo.

Both Skullcandy Sesh Evo earbuds can be used in mono mode. You can use either the left or right earbud. On the other hand, the Skullcandy Sesh only allows you to use the left earbud when in mono mode.

Another advantage of the Skullcandy Sesh Evo is that they have built-in EQ presets for listening to different types of audio files. There’s a music, movie and podcast preset that you can use for listening to music, watching movies and listening to podcasts. On the Skullcandy Sesh earbuds, there are no presets available. There’s no Skullcandy Sesh or Skullcandy Sesh Evo app, so having these built-in EQ presets is nice to have.

Audio Quality

They sound similar, but the Skullcandy Sesh Evo has a more accurate low frequency response.

skullcandy sesh vs sesh evo audio quality
Here’s what’s included with the Skullcandy Sesh (left) and Skullcandy Sesh Evo (right).

When it comes to sound quality, the two are similar. They both have an overemphasized and boomy bass response, so these earbuds are geared towards users that listen to genres that are bass-driven, such as hip-hop. That said, the bass on the Skullcandy Sesh Evo is a bit tighter and more accurate, so it produces a less muddy overall sound.

As for the mid and high frequencies, both earbuds are decent. They have accurate mid that allows vocal-driven tracks to sound good. Instruments in this frequency are present and they sound good. High frequency instruments are pushed a bit to the back, so some songs might lack clarity and detail. The two earbuds sound similar, but we have to give the advantage to the Skullcandy Sesh Evo in this area since they produce a tighter and more accurate bass response.

Battery Life

You’ll get a longer music playback time with the Skullcandy Sesh Evo than the Skullcandy Sesh.

skullcandy sesh vs sesh evo battery life
The Skullcandy Sesh (left) has a 10-hour battery life while the Skullcandy Sesh Evo (right) has a 24-hour playback time.

One of the major complaints with the Skullcandy Sesh earbuds is their measly 3-hour battery life. For a lot of people, 3 hours is just not long enough. Of course, the charging case is there to provide additional battery life, but you won’t be able to use it while it’s charging. Also, the Skullcandy Sesh do not have any quick charge feature.

The Skullcandy Sesh Evo earbuds come with a longer playback time that lasts up to 5 hours. While 5 hours is still far from ideal, it is a great improvement over the 3 hours of the Skullcandy Sesh. The case of the Skullcandy Sesh Evo provides an additional 19 hours of battery life. In addition to that, the Skullcandy Sesh Evo also have a quick charge feature that gives you 2 hours of music playback on a 10-minute charge.

Verdict

The Skullcandy Sesh Evo true wireless earbuds are better across the board.

Amazon product

We recommend getting the Skullcandy Sesh Evo true wireless earbuds over the Skullcandy Sesh earbuds since they are better in almost every aspect. The only time that we recommend getting the Skullcandy Sesh earbuds is when you are on a very tight budget or if you want their unique color options. Other than that, there really is no reason to get them over the Skullcandy Sesh Evo since the Evo are better sounding, they have more useful features, they have a longer battery life and the price difference between them is not that great.
