Design & Build

Both pairs of earbuds have excellent build quality with compact designs, passive noise-isolation ear-tips, and IPX4 water-resistance

At first glance, you’ll immediately notice that these earbuds have very different designs. The Sennheiser earbuds are compact and have a touch-sensitive top with an engraved Sennheiser logo. You can get these earbuds in either black or white. The AirPods Pro, on the other hand, only comes in white. They sport Apple’s proprietary stem design that was first seen on the original Apple AirPods, although a bit shorter and more compact than the original. The AirPods Pro have a pressure sensor on the stem of the earbuds and an air pressure vent right on top of that.

When it comes to build quality, both the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 and the Apple AirPods Pro go right on top of the list of truly wireless earbuds. They’re made from premium materials that are durable and lightweight. Both sets of earbuds are engineered to fit snuggly into your ears with silicon rubber tips that provide good passive noise-isolation. These tips can be replaced and to ensure a perfect fit, you get four different sizes with the Momentum True Wireless 2 and three sizes with the AirPods Pro. Both sets of earbuds are also IPX4 water-resistant, so you can use them with no problem while working out or walking under light rain

Audio

The Sennheiser earbuds produce a richer sound while listening to music but are a little muffled during calls compared to the AirPods Pro

Sound Quality

One of the most important things you need to pay attention to when you’re looking for a pair of wireless earbuds is the sound quality, and the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 and Apple AirPods Pro are some of the best sounding earbuds you can find. Right out of the box these two pairs of wireless earbuds sound amazing, but you can go further and customize EQ in their respective apps. The Apple AirPods Pro puts emphasis at around 1000-12000Hz which highlights vocals and is great for acoustic music. However, the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2, with its 7mm dynamic audio drivers tends to produce warmer, fuller, and more accurate sound with better balance. For the audiophiles out there, the Sennheiser earbuds will be an easy winner.

Noise-Cancellation

Both the Sennheiser Momentum Ture Wireless 2 and Apple AirPods Pro are equipped with active noise-cancellation; a feature that is becoming standard on wireless earbuds. The active noise-cancellation on both pairs of earbuds perform really well. Paired with passive noise-isolation from silicon ear-tips, you can immerse yourself in high-fidelity music while the world is bustling around you. And when you need to snap back to reality, you can do so with a simple tab (Momentum True Wireless 2) or press (AirPods Pro) to activate the transparent hearing mode, which allows the sound from your surroundings to enter.

We all know that active noise-cancellation technology, although very effective, is not yet perfect. Sennheiser and Apple have their own takes on active noise-cancellation and, as you would expect, they don’t perform exactly the same. The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 earbuds can cancel out noise more powerfully but the Apple AirPods Pro provide a much broader cancellation effect.

Call Quality

Both the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 and Apple AirPods Pro can be used for calls. You can answer, reject, and drop calls without ever touching your smartphone. When it comes to call quality, the Apple AirPods Pro takes the win with much clearer sound. The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2, although quite close, sounds a little muffled compared to the AirPods Pro.

Miscellaneous

The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 takes the lead when it comes to device compatibility, battery life, and customizable controls

Connectivity

The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 and the Apple AirPods Pro are equipped with Bluetooth 5.1 and 5.0 respectively. Both pairs of earbuds work with almost all devices that have Bluetooth capabilities including computers, tablets, Android devices, and iOS devices. The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2’s buttons and EQ can be customized using the Sennheiser Smart Control App, which is available to both Android and Apple users. The Apple AirPods Pro, however, can only be customized on Apple devices. On non-Apple devices, you can only download third-party apps to check your earbuds’ battery status and other basic features. You won’t be able to customize button operations and EQ on non-Apple devices.

Charging Case

The charging cases for the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 and Apple AirPods Pro do essentially the same thing: they keep your earbuds safe and charge your earbuds with their built-in rechargeable batteries. Both charging cases are made from premium materials and come with magnetic lids.

The Sennheiser charging case can hold up to 21 hours of battery life for your earbuds. It has a USB-C port on the back and takes approximately 1.5 hours to fully charge with the earbuds inside the case. The Apple AirPods Pro’s charging case can hold up to around 20 hours of battery life. The AirPods Pro charging case can be charged using a Lightning cable or any Qi-certified wireless charger.

Controls

The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 has touch-sensitive controls on each earbud. It will recognize one tap, two taps, three taps, and tap and hold, which you can assign to different settings on the Sennheiser Smart Control App. The left and right earbuds are independent of each other so you have a total of eight controls.

The Apple AirPods Pro, on the other hand, comes with pressure sensors. You squeeze on the earbud’s stem to activate controls. This prevents accidentally changing settings when you adjust your earbuds. The controls on the Apple AirPods Pro are not as customizable as those on the Sennheiser earbuds, and you can only customize them on Apple devices. There is also no way you can control volume using only the earbuds. A plus, however, is that you can summon Siri using only your voice when you’re paired up with an Apple device.

Battery

The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 takes the win over the Apple AirPods Pro when it comes to battery life. The Sennheiser earbuds give you around 7 hours of playback with an additional 21 hours in its charging case. The Apple AirPods Pro can only carry around 4.5 hours of battery life and around 20 hours in its charging case.

Verdict

The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 takes the win over the Apple AirPods Pro with better sound quality, longer battery life, more customizable controls, and better device compatibility
