Design

It looks sleek and has the standard features of the Roomba 600 series

Roomba
At 3.6″, the Roomba 671 can easily get under most furniture

The Roomba 671 is mostly black with accents of gray, like most of the robot vacuums in the iRobot Roomba 600 line. Its exterior is protected with a light-touch bumper that cushions the impact when your vacuum comes into contact with your walls. It also comes with the standard physical controls such as the handle, dust bin release, and the clean, spot, and dock buttons.

It is 3.6-inches thick so going underneath most furniture is not a problem for this robot vacuum. Its dust bin has a capacity of 300 mL and because of its size, you may need to empty the bin around 45 to 50 minutes into cleaning.

Mapping and Navigation

The Roomba 671 features intelligent navigation and can be set up with a Virtual Wall Barrier

Roomba 671 review

The Roomba 671 is equipped with intelligent navigation and cliff sensors that will keep your vacuum from bumping into furniture and clutter or falling down the stairs. Its intelligent navigation allows the 671 to clean under and around your furniture. It can also roll over from the hard floor to the carpet smoothly, as long as your carpet is either low or medium pile.

Since it does not have the mapping navigation/path planning capability that more expensive Roombas have, it will clean spots randomly and will wander about your floor seemingly aimlessly. Don’t worry though as it still does a great job of cleaning your floors and carpets. If you want the Roomba to focus on cleaning one room and block off certain areas of your house, you can set the Roomba 671 up with a Virtual Wall Barrier that can be bought separately.

Going back to the cliff sensors, they work well to keep your robot vacuum from falling and breaking. However, these cause the vacuum to confuse dark flooring and carpets as a “cliff” and consequently try avoiding cleaning that area. Worse, it might get stuck from time to time. It may collide into black furniture, too, or those with black legs. This is something that happens to most robot vacuums though and not exclusively a Roomba 671 issue.

Cleaning Performance

Its brushes and vacuum suction can pull in particles and debris well

Roomba 671 review
It comes with an Edge-Sweeping Brush (left) and iRobot’s Dirt Detect Technology

The Roomba 671 is equipped with iRobot’s patented 3-Stage Cleaning System. Its Dual Multi-Surface Brush, Edge-Sweeping Brush, and vacuum suction work together to make sure your floor and the edges of your walls are free from debris, dust, and hair. It can detect when it’s by a wall and use the Edge-Sweeping brush to make sure even the tightest corners are clean.

It also features Dirt Detect sensors that can identify areas with stubborn dirt or those with more dirt than usual. Your Roomba will focus and work harder on that area and will only move forward once it’s clean enough. With a suction power of 600 Pa, it is not as powerful as the more expensive models, but it can pull even pet hair and debris in a breeze even on a medium-pile carpet. Considering its dust bin size though, it is better if you vacuum at least two to three times a week for optimal cleaning.

The Roomba 671 can run for up to 90 minutes on a full cycle. When it is running low on batteries, it will navigate back to its docking station and charge. It needs 120 minutes of charging time to run a full cycle again. Sometimes, it might not make it back to its docking station and you would have to manually dock it, but it seldom happens.

Control Options

Its Wi-Fi connectivity lets you control the Roomba 671 through the iRobot App, Amazon Alexa, or Google Assistant

Roomba Wi-Fi iRobot App
You can ask your Roomba 671 to start cleaning no matter where you are

The Roomba 671 is compatible with the iRobot HOME App that lets you control your Roomba wherever you are. You can also use the app to automatically schedule your cleaning for up to seven days and record your cleaning history. Just make sure your dust bin is empty though before you start so you can maximize its runtime while you’re away.

Verdict

The Roomba 671’s features and wireless connectivity make it worth your money

If you are looking to own a robot vacuum without breaking the bank, the Roomba 671 is a solid choice. It is high quality, well-built, and equipped with the standard cleaning technologies of iRobot. Sure, it’s not as powerful as the newer, more expensive models, but this Roomba delivers its promise of cleaning for you so you can spend more time doing what you love.
