Design and Build

From their shape and color options to their button layout, the Razer Wolverine V2, Wolverine V2 Chroma and Wolverine V2 Pro are similar.

Unlike its pricier counterparts, the Razer Wolverine V2 (in photo) only has two remappable multi-function buttons at the top.

These Razer controllers have more or less the same form factor and button layout, but they’re easy to tell apart. First off, the Wolverine V2 and Wolverine V2 Chroma may share the same Xbox design language, but as its name suggests, the latter boasts Razer Chroma lighting. Meanwhile, the Wolverine V2 Pro resembles the PlayStation 5 DualShock controller, but it has a noticeably thicker body and shorter hand grips and swaps the position of the D-pad and the left joystick. Also, it features RGB lighting, just to be clear.

Out of the three, the Wolverine V2 Chroma is the lightest at 0.595 lbs, but the other two aren’t exactly that much heavier with the Wolverine V2 coming in at 0.604 lbs and the Wolverine V2 Pro at 0.615 lbs.

It’s the same story with their dimensions, as both the Wolverine V2 and Wolverine V2 Chroma are 6.35 inches in length, 4.16 inches in width and 2.55 inches in height. Again, the Wolverine V2 Pro doesn’t stray far off from the rest, measuring 6.59 inches, 4.16 inches and 2.56 inches in length, width and height, respectively.

All three come in the same colors as well, but it’s worth pointing out that the white variant of the Wolverine V2 Pro sports a two-tone design with black grips and a white body.

Features and Usage

From a functional standpoint, the Wolverine V2 isn’t as customizable as the Wolverine V2 Chroma and Wolverine V2 Pro.

Compared to its non-Chroma sibling, the Razer Wolverine V2 Chroma (in photo) uses a detachable USB-C cable instead of a fixed wire.

Considering that the Wolverine V2 is the “least premium,” it isn’t surprising it’s the least feature-packed here. However, in its defense, it does have an accompanying app, which is the same case with the Wolverine V2 Chroma and Wolverine V2 Pro. Also, it’s the only one of the three that doesn’t have interchangeable thumbsticks.

Now the Wolverine V2 only has two remappable buttons. Both the Wolverine V2 Chroma and Wolverine V2 Pro bump that number up to a total of six, which come in the form of four additional back buttons besides the two on the top.

In terms of performance, the Wolverine V2 doesn’t lag behind. It’s equipped with Mecha-Tactile action buttons and a Mecha-Tactile D-pad, the same as the Wolverine V2 Chroma—with one small difference: it doesn’t have a circular D-pad. The Wolverine V2 Pro also has Mecha-Tactile action buttons, but it’s the only one with an interchangeable D-pad.

All three play nicely with the PC, but in case it still isn’t obvious based on their designs, the Wolverine V2 and Wolverine V2 Chroma are made for the Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S. On the other hand, the Wolverine V2 Pro supports the PlayStation 5.

Connectivity

The Wolverine V2 and Wolverine V2 Chroma are wired gaming controllers, while the Wolverine V2 Pro can be used wired or wirelessly via a dongle.

The Razer Wolverine V2 Pro (in photo) supports wired and wireless connections.

Both the Wolverine V2 and Wolverine V2 Chroma use a wired connection via a 9.8ft cable, but with an important difference: only the latter’s is detachable. It’s the same deal with the Wolverine V2 Pro in the sense that it uses a detachable USB-C cable, but aside from that, it can also connect wirelessly with its included dongle, which is a pretty huge plus. On a single charge, it can go for up to 10 hours with Chroma lighting or 28 hours with the feature off.

Verdict

Choosing the best Razer controller among the Wolverine V2, Wolverine V2 Chroma and Wolverine V2 Pro isn’t rocket science, as it mainly depends on which console you own.
