Design

The Razer Seiren X has a more compact design than the HyperX QuadCast.

When looking at these two mics, you can easily tell which is which. The HyperX QuadCast comes with a red and black aesthetic while the Razer Seiren X comes in mostly black with green LED lighting. While they have similar shapes, the HyperX QuadCast is the bigger microphone, measuring 9.8 x 4 x 5.1 inches to the 7.24 x 3.24 inch dimensions of the Razer Seiren X. The HyperX QuadCast is also the heavier mic of the two, weighing 710g while the Razer Seiren X only weighs 383g.

Both microphones come with their own desktop stands that work fine, but if you want, you can also attach them to a boom arm. While the desktop stands are fine, both mics will perform better when attached to a boom arm since you’ll have full control over their placement.

The Razer Seiren X has a headphone volume knob and a mic mute button at the front and a USB and 3.5mm output at its base. On the other hand, the HyperX QuadCast only has a touch mute button at the top, it doesn’t have a headphone volume knob even though it has a 3.5mm audio output for monitoring. At the back of the HyperX QuadCast is a selector for its four polar patterns.

Since the Razer Seiren X is the more compact mic, it is more suitable if you travel a lot. It is easier to store and pack away than the HyperX QuadCast.

Features

With four polar patterns to choose from, HyperX QuadCast is a more versatile mic than the Razer Seiren X.

Both mics come with measures to prevent vibrations.

The biggest advantage that the HyperX QuadCast has over the Razer Seiren X is that it has four polar patterns—Cardioid, Bidirectional, Omnidirectional and Stereo. With a cardioid polar pattern, the mic will only pick up sounds that come from the front, this is great for streaming and podcasting. A bidirectional polar pattern will capture sounds from the front and the back and this is great for interviews. When omnidirectional is selected, the HyperX Quadcast will capture sound from all directions. Lastly, when stereo is in use, the mic will capture sounds from the left and right sides.

The Razer Seiren X only has one polar pattern, which is super cardioid. Super cardioid has a tighter pickup area than cardioid, so it is more effective when it comes to blocking unwanted noise. Since it only has one polar pattern, the Razer Seiren X is not as versatile as the HyperX QuadCast.

Razer Seiren X comes with a headphones volume knob while the HyperX QuadCast does not. Both mics come with real-time headphone monitoring but only the Razer Seiren X allows you to adjust the headphones volume.

Sound Quality

They both sound good, with the Razer Seiren X having a brighter sound and the HyperX QuadCast a warmer sound.

Both microphones come with anti-vibration shock mounts but the HyperX QuadCast does a better job of keeping vibrations from being captured. They both have a sampling rate of 48KHz so your recordings will sound good. Also, they have the same frequency response of 20 – 20KHz, so they are capable of capturing subtle details of your voice without issues.

As for how they sound, the HyperX QuadCast has a warm sound with the treble rolled-off. The lows and mids are slightly emphasized to give you a fuller sound while the treble is slightly rolled-off to prevent harshness for users with high pitched voices.

The Razer Seiren X, on the other hand, has a brighter sound than the HyperX QuadCast. The highs are slightly emphasized with a recessed bass. Even though the highs are emphasized, it won’t produce a harsh sounding recording, so users with high pitched voices should not worry about that.

Verdict

The HyperX QuadCast is the overall better microphone than the Razer Seiren X, but it also costs more.

While both microphones output good sound, the features that come with the HyperX QuadCast makes it the overall better mic. Having the option to choose from four different polar patterns gives it versatility and with its built-in pop filter and anti-shock mount, you’ll be able to record immediately without having to buy extra accessories. However, it does cost more than the Razer Seiren X.

You should consider the Razer Seiren X if you travel a lot since it is easy to pack and store due to its more compact design, or if you don’t need the versatility of the HyperX QuadCast. If you are only a streamer or you don’t need the extra polar patterns that come with the HyperX QuadCast, then the Razer Seiren X is the more sensible option as it is less expensive and its super cardioid polar pattern is more than enough for single person recordings.
