Design

Looks-wise, the Polk Audio Signa S2 and Signa S3 are identical.

polk audio signa s2 vs s3 design
The Polk Audio Signa S2 (left) and Signa S3 (right) have the same exact physical dimensions.

Both the Polk Audio Signa S2 and Signa S3 are 2.1 soundbars with a decent build quality that should last a while. Measuring 2.15 x 35.43 x 3.22 inches, these two are compact enough that you won’t have any problems with placement. You can rest either of them on the TV rack and they won’t obstruct your view since they aren’t too tall, or you can wall mount them if you prefer. They come with wall mount spacers and they have universal mounting holes.

At the front, there’s a fabric covering the drivers with the Polk logo at the side. It would have been nicer if they used metal grilles instead of fabric since it would do a better job of protecting the drivers. The subwoofer is also covered by the same fabric used on the soundbar. Measuring 13.4 x 6.72 x 12.2 inches, the subwoofer is not too big and since it has a thin profile, you should be able to place it anywhere without problem.

The top of the soundbars house the control buttons if you need to control them manually. There’s a button for power, source, Bluetooth and volume. They also come with a standard remote. At the front, there are LED indicator lights to let you know which settings are being used. Different colors show different functions, such as green for when Dolby Audio is used etc.

Connectivity

The Polk Audio Signa S2 only has Bluetooth while the Polk Audio Signa S3 comes with both Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity.

polk audio signa s2 vs s3 connectivity
The Polk Audio Signa S2 (left) and Signa S3 (right) have the same physical ports but the latter supports up to 8K video.

The two soundbars have the same physical inputs. They both have an HDMI (ARC) port, a 3.5mm analog audio port, an optical port and a USB port for audio playback. The difference is that the HDMI port of the Polk Audio Signa S3 supports up to 8K video playback, whereas the Polk Audio Signa S2’s HDMI port is limited to only 4K video.

When it comes to wireless connectivity, the Polk Audio Signa S2 comes with Bluetooth only. You can stream music wirelessly using your phone or any Bluetooth-enabled device. On the other hand, the Polk Audio Signa S3 comes with both Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. It also has built-in Chromecast and it supports Google Assistant. In terms of connectivity, the Signa S3 is more versatile.

Features

The Polk Audio Signa S3 comes with built-in Chromecast, supports up to 8K video, has WiFi connectivity and works with Google Assistant.

polk audio signa s2 vs s3 features
The Polk Audio Signa S2 (left) and Signa S3 (right) have similar control buttons.

As far as features go, both soundbars come with Polk Voiceadjust Technology. With this feature, you can adjust the voice level separately so that when you are watching a movie or a TV show, every line of dialogue is clear and crisp. This feature is nice for those movies or TV shows that have a very low speech volume.

Both soundbars also come with different listening modes such as Night, Movie and Music. You can switch listening modes using the included remote. While having various sound modes is good, it would have been better if they offered an adjustable EQ, but unfortunately, there isn’t.

Since these two also support HDMI CEC, you can use your TV’s remote to control some of its basic functions such as volume control. Both the Polk Audio Signa S2 and Signa S3 will automatically work with Samsung, Vizio, Sony, TCL and LG TV remotes.

Sound

Equipped with similar drivers, the Polk Audio Signa S2 and Signa S3 deliver full and rich audio with excellent bass.

polk audio signa s2 vs s3 sound
A look at the Polk Audio Signa S2 (left) and Signa S3 (right) subwoofers.

The two soundbars sound exactly the same since they have the same speaker configuration. They have the signature Polk Audio sound that is a little bit on the brighter side. On the whole, they have a V-shaped sound signature with emphasis on the lows and highs. They have a “fun and exciting” sound when listening to music, however, they can also be fatiguing for those that are sensitive to high frequency sound.

When watching movies, these 2.1 soundbars perform very well. They don’t have a wide soundstage since they have a compact build, but you can still hear sound accurately when they are coming from different directions. Polk Audio’s voice adjust feature ensures that dialogue can be heard clearly and this is a big help when it comes to movies with a bad mix. The one drawback with these soundbars is that they don’t get low enough to produce rumbling sounds that improve immersion. These soundbars can only go down to 45 Hz, which is decent, but could be better.

Verdict

The Polk Audio Signa S2 offers better value for the money than the Polk Audio Signa S3.

We recommend the Polk Audio Signa S2 if you just want a soundbar without spending too much money. It sounds very good and for its price, it’s one of the best soundbars that you can buy. The Polk Audio Signa S3 is also a good soundbar but only if you need its WiFi connectivity and if you plan on upgrading to an 8K TV soon. If you don’t really need its WiFi connectivity and you don’t plan on upgrading to an 8K TV soon, the Polk Audio Signa S2 is the better buy.
