Design

The Nespresso Lattissima One is more compact than the Gran Lattissima.

You can easily see how much bigger the milk jug on the Nespresso Gran Lattissima (left) is compared to the Lattissima One (right).

As we’ve mentioned, the Gran Lattissima and Lattissima One represent the top and bottom end of the product line in terms of price, build, and features. The Gran Lattissima is a much bigger coffee maker and weighs more than double the Lattissima One. You should definitely consider your available counter space when choosing between the two.

While both have the same water tank capacity of 1 liter, their milk jugs are quite different. The Gran Lattissima has a half-liter container that you can detach and store in the fridge so you can keep unused milk fresh. In contrast, the Lattissima One only has enough milk storage for one or two drinks depending on the coffee recipe you select.

Otherwise the Gran Lattissimo and Lattissimo One machines manufactured by De’Longhi have very similar design aesthetics. They have a modern matte finish with high-gloss accents, including a chromed lever and milk spout. You can place removable parts such as the milk jug in the dishwasher for easy cleanup.

Features

The Nespresso Gran Lattissima has more one-touch presets than the Lattissima One.

Nespresso Gran Lattissima vs Lattissima One Features
Simply select which coffee drink you want with the touch buttons on the Gran Lattissima.

Located at the top of both Lattissima machines are all the buttons you need to operate them. The Gran Lattissima has quite a few more, owing to having more beverage selections. It has a separate power button along with nine touch buttons for its coffee recipes, which include Ristretto, Espresso, Lungo, Cafe Latte, Cappuccino, Latte Macchiato, and Flat White. You can also just get foamed milk or a glass of hot milk for an extra top off for your drink.

Meanwhile, the Lattissima One only has three soft touch buttons that let you access its four coffee recipes. You can get Espresso and Lungo with their respective buttons (Ristretto is notably missing), which you combine with the milk button to create a cappuccino or latte macchiato. There’s definitely a lot fewer options with the Lattissima One, but they might be unnecessary depending on your preferences.

Both Gran Lattissima and Lattissima One utilize a thermoblock system to quickly heat up water to the optimal temperature. It takes around 25 seconds for them to heat espresso and 40 seconds for milk beverages. They also have a 19 bar pressure pump that allows them to consistently extract the flavors and aroma of each Nespresso capsule. Finally, they have a descaling function that automatically triggers depending on the water hardness setting you choose, which ensures you get the best coffee experience each time.

Coffee Quality

The Nespresso Gran Lattissima lets you enjoy more coffee recipes than the Lattissima One.

Here’s a similar look at the Nespresso Lattissima One’s top and side.

If you like milk-based coffee a lot, you’ll enjoy all the ways you can experience Nespresso capsules with the Nespresso Gran Lattissima. You can get cafe latte and flat white with it, both of which are unavailable on the Lattissima One. Plus, topping off your drink with extra foam is possible too. Moreover, because of its larger milk jug, the Gran Lattissima lets you prepare several coffee cups for guests much faster and easier.

Since both Lattissima machines use similar technologies and features to extract coffee from pods, you’ll find that coffee quality is similar too, overall. You can expect great-tasting coffee from either De’Longhi-Nespresso machine. They use OriginalLine capsules, too, allowing you to try a much wider variety of coffee blends and aromatic profiles. A welcome gift containing 14 capsules is included with both coffee makers, so you can start sampling right away.

Note that flushing the milk frother is essential in keeping both Nespresso Lattissima machines running well and serving good coffee. Milk dries quickly and it’s not pleasant to leave around. With the Lattissima One, you’ll need to flush it clean after every milk prep. They have easy self-cleaning systems and they’re both top-rack dishwasher-safe.

Verdict

The Nespresso Gran Lattissima can simply do more than the Lattissima One.

As the entire Lattissima series is devoted to helping users enjoy milk recipes, the De’Longhi Nespresso Gran Lattissima offers a lot more variety along with bigger containers for multiple cups. It is a lot more expensive though, costing roughly twice the Lattissima One. You’ll have to ask yourself whether the additional one-touch recipes are worth it, though being able to take the milk container in and out of the fridge as needed is enticing and highly convenient.

If a cappuccino or latte macchiato every now and then is good enough for you, the De’Longhi Nespresso Lattissima One is clearly better value. It’s a lot more affordable too if this is going to be your first foray into the world of Nespresso pod coffee. You can enjoy the same excellent quality coffee and spend what you’ll be saving on actual capsules instead.

FAQs

๐Ÿ“Œ How do you use the Nespresso Gran Lattissima?

First, fill the water and milk containers while respecting the max line. Plug in the Gran Lattissima and lift the chromed lever to put in a Nespresso capsule. The machine will heat up in around 15 seconds. Place your cup under the coffee outlet and adjust the milk spout towards it. Turn the milk froth regulator knob to the ‘froth’ or middle position. Then just press the button of the coffee recipe of your choice.

๐Ÿ“Œ Can you use almond milk in Nespresso Lattissima?

Yes, you can, but expect the resulting froth of these non-dairy alternatives to be thinner than whole milk or skimmed milk.

๐Ÿ“Œ What is the difference between the Lattissima Touch and Pro?

The Nespresso Lattissima Pro has a larger water reservoir than the Lattissima Touch, and also has a digital display and a hot water only setting. Both offer a ristretto size and a foam only brew setting, so they sit between the Lattissima One and the Gran Lattissima in terms of available recipes.

๐Ÿ“Œ Is De’Longhi a good brand for espresso machines?

Yes. Nespresso partnered with highly regarded kitchen equipment manufacturers to bring the brand’s machines to different countries. De’Longhi exclusively produces the Lattissima models in Italy.
