Design

The Logitech Z407 Bluetooth computer speakers come with a wireless dial/remote while the Z623’s controls are on the right speaker.

You can orient the Logitech Z407 (left) satellites vertically or horizontally, while the satellites of the Z623 (right) can only be placed vertically.

These speaker systems come in black and they consist of two satellites and a subwoofer. The satellites of the Logitech Z407 measure 7.9 x 3.7 x 3.4 inches and the sub is 9.4 x 9.2 x 7.1 inches. On the other hand, the Logitech Z623 satellites are 7.7 x 4.6 x 5 inches and the sub is 11.2 x 12.0 x 10.5 inches.

Both systems are easy to setup on a desk, but the Logitech Z407 will take up less space since its satellites are slightly more compact. Also, the Z407 satellites can be placed either vertically or horizontally, so you have more options when it comes to placement. The Z623 satellite speakers can only be placed vertically, in comparison.

Inside the Logitech Z407 subwoofer is a 5-inch driver that won’t be able to deliver true sub bass, but is capable of adding bass depth to your listening experience. On the other hand, the Logitech Z623 subwoofer sports a 7-inch driver that can output lower frequencies more effectively, giving extra thump and rumble when watching movies, gaming or listening to music.

Audio Quality

The Logitech Z407 Bluetooth computer speakers can’t match the power of the Logitech Z623.

You get a convenient wireless dial with the Logitech Z407 (left).

Both speaker sets can output room-filling sound, especially if they are placed inside a small room. However, the Logitech Z623 system does have the advantage if you want to blast music at a higher volume. With a higher continuous and peak power, you can turn up the volume of the Logitech Z623 without sound distortion. The same can’t be said for the Logitech Z407 since it has a significantly lower output power.

When it comes to sound quality, the Logitech Z623 sounds fuller and richer. The subwoofer of the Z623 provides better bass extension, but it can be a bit boomy. Its mids are accurate and detailed, but the highs are noticeably recessed, since the satellites only have one driver. The Logitech Z407 performs similarly when it comes to the mids and highs, but its bass is lacking. Since it has a small 5-inch driver, there’s no sub-bass extension.

Connectivity

The Logitech Z407 comes with Bluetooth connectivity while the Logitech Z623 is a strictly wired speaker set.

Here are the cables and accessories that you get with the Logitech Z407 Bluetooth computer speakers (left) and the Logitech Z623 (right).

You can connect up to three devices to both the Logitech Z407 and Z623. The Logitech Z407 has a 3.5mm aux input, a micro USB input and Bluetooth for wireless connectivity. Meanwhile, the Logitech Z623 has two 3.5mm aux inputs and a stereo RCA input. It’s clear that the Logitech Z407 has the advantage here as it is more versatile with its wireless connectivity option. However, the Logitech Z623 does have a headphone jack.

When it comes to controls, the Logitech Z407 has a multi-function wireless dial that’s more convenient than the fixed controls of the Logitech Z623. The wireless dial gives you functions such as play, pause, skip track, previous track, volume and choose audio source.

Verdict

Go with the Logitech Z407 if you want Bluetooth connectivity, however, if you don’t need that particular function, the Logitech Z623 is the better 2.1 speaker set.

Choosing between the Logitech Z407 and Logitech Z623 will come down to which features are more important to you. If you want the flexibility of having Bluetooth connectivity, the Logitech Z407 is the obvious choice. However, you do have to sacrifice a bit of bass if you opt to go with it. If you want a more powerful set of speakers, the Logitech Z623 is the smarter choice. It sounds better overall, but it doesn’t have Bluetooth connectivity.
