Logitech G402 vs G502 (2021): Which Wired Gaming Mouse Should You Buy?

They are roughly the same size, but the G402 is slimmer.

The Logitech G402 and G502 are both geared towards right-handed players and unfortunately, there are no left-handed models available. Looks-wise, they have the same form factor, but the G402 has more rounded edges as opposed to the sharper edges on the G502. The Logitech G402 also has a smoother finish, while the G502 is textured.

While they are roughly the same size, the Logitech G402 is a bit slimmer, so people with smaller hand will find it to be more comfortable. The Logitech G502, on the other hand, will likely be preferred by people with larger hands. As for their measurements, the Logitech G402 is measured at 5.35 x 2.8 x 1.6 inches, while the Logitech G502 measures 5.2 x 2.95 x 1.57 inches.

Weighing only 108g, the Logitech G402 is lighter than the G502. In contrast, the G502 weighs 121g. One of the features that you’ll only get with the Logitech G502 is its customizable weight. They are both wired USB mice and they come with roughly 7ft. or 2.1m cables. The Logitech G402 comes with a thinner cable that is a bit stiff and can get in the way. In contrast, the cable on the Logitech G502 is braided and will not add resistance as you’re using it.

Features

Since it is a newer model, the Logitech G502 comes with more features.

When it comes to features, the Logitech G502 is superior as it is more feature-packed than the G402. This is not a surprise as the Logitech G402 is the older model.

Both of these gaming mice come with multiple programmable buttons—8 for the G402 and 11 for the G502. These extra buttons will help you customize your controls better, especially for those hard to reach keys on the keyboard. Both mice come with onboard memory, so you can save your settings onto it, then use it on another PC without having to set it up again.

An improvement that the Logitech G502 has over the G402 is its scroll wheel. It has two modes—hyperfast scrolling and single click precision scrolling. You can toggle it to function how you want, depending on what you’re doing. In addition, it also has a tilt-wheel function for horizontal scrolling.

Lastly, RGB features. If you like RGB, then no question, you should get the Logitech G502. The Logitech G402 does not support Logitech Lightsync so you can’t customize it or sync it with your other Logitech devices. Performance

The HERO sensor on the Logitech G502 makes it one of the top gaming mice in the market.

As far as sensitivity goes, the HERO sensor on the Logitech G502 vastly outperforms the Fusion Engine hybrid sensor on the Logitech G402. The Logitech G502 has a dpi range of 100 – 25,600, while the dpi range on the G402 is only from 240 – 4000. That is quite the difference and it will certainly affect your gaming, especially with FPS or action games that require targeting and pinpoint accuracy.

All the extra buttons feel responsive and clicky, however, when it comes to the main left and right mouse buttons, the G502 has the edge. The left and right buttons on the G502 have a more tactile feel to them, as opposed to the softer clicks on the G402.

Both gaming mice are designed for FPS games but you can definitely use them for RTS, MOBAs and other types of games. However, the three extra buttons on the G502 are definitely an advantage and will allow you to customize your controls better.

The standard rubber cable on the Logitech G402 can be a bit annoying, since it can become stiff and a hindrance. The braided cable on the Logitech G502, on the other hand, is nice and doesn’t pose any issues. While this is just a minor complaint on the G402, it should still be noted.

Verdict

The Logitech G502 is the superior gaming mouse.

While the Logitech G402 was great back then, it is a bit lacking when compared to newer models. It is still a good choice though if you want a gaming mouse that has a slim design, lightweight or if you have small hands that have trouble with larger gaming mice.

As for the Logitech G502, it is simply the better product. It comes with more features and better performance overall. It has a wider sensitivity range, more buttons, customizable weight and more. If you want the best, then go with the Logitech G502.
