Leesa Original Construction

The Leesa Original is a 10 inch mattress with a 3-layer construction

Leesa’s design is very good as the materials complement each other very well

The Leesa Original is a 10″ mattress with a 3-layer construction and uses a blend of lycra and polyester for the cover. The cover is quite unique and it features the 4-bar design that Leesa has made popular. Leesa’s combination of lycra and polyester makes for a very durable and breathable cover that won’t get hot when summer time comes, allowing you to sleep comfortably without sweating.

The topmost layer of the Leesa Original is a 2″ Avena foam. It is very similar to latex without the high price tag. It provides comfort as well as cooling. Like latex, it is also bouncy and responsive, so getting in and out of bed is very easy.

The memory foam layer of the Leesa Original is two inches thick with a density of 3lbs. Memory foam is great for pressure relief, contouring and additional support. It tends to get warm though so it is placed in the middle layer. This design allows the mattress to stay cool with the Avena foam on top.

The support layer is a 6″ layer of high density foam. This layer is a strong base that can provide additional support and lets the mattress retain its shape. It’s also breathable and contributes to the mattress staying cool.

Leesa Original – Comfort and Support

The Leesa Original is rated as a medium when it comes to firmness level

A good mattress with proper support makes sure that your spine is in an optimal position while you sleep

The Leesa Original has a firmness level of medium. You could describe it as not too soft and not too firm, just right. That’s what they were aiming for with this mattress and that’s exactly how the mattress feels. It’s just right.

The design of the mattress is very good. The Avena foam and the memory foam complement each other very well to provide a very comfortable mattress. Memory foam is notorious for its heat retention and by putting it below the Avena foam, which is great for cooling, the mattress stays relatively cool as you sleep. You won’t be having trouble with night sweats with this mattress.

Having the memory foam below the Avena foam also provides you with a mattress that contours very well to your body without sinking in too much. Getting in and out of bed is easy and changing positions while you sleep is very doable.

Leesa’s Original mattress is a very good all-rounder that provides very good comfort and ample support due to the thick base support foam.

Loom and Leaf Construction

The Loom and Leaf mattress is 12 inches thick and has a 4 layer construction

Loom and Leaf is an affordable premium mattress that comes with a carefully planned design

The Loom and Leaf mattress is 12 inches thick and is built with 4 layers of foam. It comes with a quilted organic cotton with a 5/8″ layer of foam. The cover is very soft as it uses organic cotton and it also provides additional support due to the quilting. Just below the cover is a natural thistle flame retardant.

The first and second layers of the Loom and Leaf mattress is a combination of two types of memory foam with a cooling gel laminated on top of the first layer to provide cooling. This layer uses gel memory foam with a pin core design for better air flow and heat dispersion. The second layer is a 5lb density memory foam that provides body contouring and comfort, as well as support. This design allows for the superior comfort of a high density memory foam without the heat retention.

The third layer is a 2″ transitional loft pad. This layer allows the memory foam and the support foam to work with each other optimally to provide better contouring as well as support.

The base layer is a 6″ high density foam. It is breathable so it helps with cooling. Aside from that, it acts as the foundation and provide shape to the mattress.

Loom and Leaf – Comfort and Support

The Loom and Leaf mattress has a relaxed firm and firm option for firmness levels

A look at the Loom and Leaf mattress

The Loom and Leaf mattress comes in either relaxed firm (medium) or firm. If you are a side sleeper, the relaxed firm is recommended, same is true for sleepers that change positions a lot. For stomach and back sleepers, the firm option is the better choice.

Despite having two memory foam layers, Loom and Leaf has no problem with heat retention due to its gel-on-gel design. The spinal gel laminated on top of the gel memory foam makes sure that the mattress stays cool as you sleep. It also provides lumbar support.

The second memory foam layer provides very good contouring and pressure relief due to its 5lb density. Normally, high density foams are prone to heat retention because they wrap around your body very well and trap heat. With Loom and Leaf’s design, this is not a problem as it is in the middle layer and the heat is dealt with by the top layer with very good cooling properties.

It’s a very comfortable mattress and it provides very good support, too. Due to it’s thicker profile of 12 inches, it can support larger people as well.

Warranty and Other Features

Both Leesa and Loom and Leaf offer long warranty periods

Loom and Leaf offers 15 years warranty while Leesa gives 10 years

Loom and Leaf comes with a 15 year prorated warranty and Leesa offers 10 years. They are both very good deals and they are both known to be easy to deal with when it comes to warranty claims. Loom and Leaf has a 180-day sleep trial and Leesa offers 100 days.

For pricing, the Leesa Original is the cheaper option. It is marketed as a bed-in-a-box and mattresses in this category try to reduce the cost in many areas without sacrificing the quality and performance of the mattress. Leesa does a very good job with this as it is a very high quality mattress with a an attractive price tag.

As for Loom and Leaf, it is quite pricey but when compared to other mattresses in the “luxury” category, it is actually very affordable. Loom and Leaf markets itself as an affordable luxury mattress and they achieved that with Loom and Leaf’s quality and price.

When it comes to delivery/shipping, we give the edge to Loom and Leaf as it does not come in a box. Mattresses that are vacuum sealed tend to off-gas when opened. Off-gassing is when the mattress gives off a strong chemical odor when it is removed from the packaging. It can linger on for days or weeks. It’s not a health hazard though, just an inconvenience.

Verdict

Leesa is a good option for the budget oriented shopper while Loom and Leaf is the better overall mattress at a higher price range
