Klipsch T5 II vs AirPods Pro (2022): Which Wireless Earphones Are Worth Your Money?

When Klipsch launched the T5 True Wireless, they were met with praise for their audio quality, although they did come with some minor design flaws. Fortunately, the audio tech company didn’t let these issues go unaddressed and released the Klipsch T5 II True Wireless as an answer to them. The next question is, however, can this new and improved version beat the likes of the Apple AirPods Pro? To help you figure it out, here’s an in-depth comparison of the Klipsch T5 II and the AirPods Pro, covering their design, audio performance, and battery life.

Both the Klipsch T5 II and the Apple AirPods Pro are lightweight and comfortable, although the former is more durable.

According to Klipsch, the T5 II earbuds are 25% smaller than their predecessor. It’s a good call by the company to cut back on size because the Apple AirPods Pro are known for being lightweight. They’re so lightweight that you can barely tell when they’re inside your ears. As for fit, the T5 II come with six pairs of silicone ear tips so you’re sure to find the perfect size for you. They’re even color coded so that it’s easier for you to tell them apart. The AirPods Pro only come with one pair of ear tips although they’ve improved so much from the original AirPods. They definitely fit much better and will stay put even when you’re moving around vigorously.

While the T5 II and the AirPods Pro are more or less at par when it comes to design and comfort, though the former wins in terms of durability. The T5 II boast of an IP67 rating, meaning they’re water and dust-proof and can be taken to your sweaty gym workouts or your outdoor runs with no problem. The AirPods Pro earbuds come with an IPX4 rating and can only manage sweat and light rain.

As for controls, these two models are the complete opposite. With the T5 II, you get physical buttons which many users enjoy the feel of. However, there’s always the drawback of your earbuds being pushed in whenever you press the controls. The AirPods Pro, on the other hand, have touch-sensitive controls but without haptic feedback to make the experience more tactile.

Audio Quality

Both the Klipsch T5 II and Apple AirPods Pro have strong mids and lows but struggle with soundstage.

Klipsch T5 II vs Apple AirPods Pro audio
The Apple AirPods Pro deliver clear audio across all genres.

Thanks to their thin diaphragms and 5mm dynamic drivers, the Klipsch T5 II can supposedly deliver an enhanced clarity of music across all frequencies. While they definitely do sound clear, their performance isn’t quite as consistent as Klipsch claims. They excel when it comes to pop and bass-heavy tracks, able to let the mids coms through with a satisfying richness and the lows with a lot of power and control. However, they struggle with the trebles and tend to produce a hissing sound which may annoy discerning ears. Also, they have quite a narrow soundstage. So are they top-of-the-line earphones? Not quite. But neither are the Apple AirPods Pro.

Across all genres, the AirPods Pro’s vocals come through with a lot of depth and the bass is significantly more energetic compared to the AirPods 2’s. But similarly to the T5 II, the soundstage on the AirPods Pro isn’t that great either, with very little separation between the mids and lows. This gives off a weird feeling that the sounds are emanating from the inside of your head rather than from different angles. If you were to compare them to more high-end models, it’s obvious that the AirPods Pro wireless earphones sound ‘stuffier’ and that the details aren’t as clear.

Noise Cancellation

The Apple AirPods Pro have impressive ANC abilities while the Klipsch T5 II completely lack the feature.

Both the Klipsch T5 II (left) and the Apple AirPods Pro (right) have transparency mode.

While it has been a close game so far, this is the part where the Apple AirPods Pro pull way ahead of the Klipsch T5 II. Both models come with hefty price tags and so you’d expect them to have active noise cancellation. However, only the AirPods Pro earbuds do, giving them a huge advantage over their competitor. When you have the AirPods Pro’s ANC feature turned on, you can enjoy your favorite tracks without getting distracted by the sounds of honking cars, chatty officemates, and whirring kitchen appliances. While high frequency sounds may still come through, they’ll sound nothing more than faint background noise.

If you want to be able to hear the sounds around you, however, you can always turn on transparency mode. This allows external sounds to pass through so that you can hear oncoming cars or even hold a conversation with a friend without having to pause your music or take your earbuds off. You can tell that it’s a well-thought-out feature too because the external sounds filter in gradually instead of immediately rushing in and shocking your eardrums. Do note, however, that activating the transparency mode is quite fiddly and isn’t as easy as Apple makes it out to be.

The Klipsch T5 II have a more dependable battery life than the Apple AirPods Pro.

The Klipsch T5 II can last for up to 32 hours.

The Klipsch T5 II try to make up for their lack of ANC with an impressive battery life. The earbuds themselves already have 8 hours worth of juice, but put them together with the charging case and you get 32 hours of battery life in total. This makes them more dependable than the Apple AirPods Pro which only have 5 hours of battery life on their own and 24 hours together with the charging case. With the T5 II, it’s safe to say that you can enjoy around a week of listening to music without having to reach for the charging cable.

The Apple AirPods Pro are a better investment than the Klipsch T5 II because of their ANC feature.

The lack of ANC on the Klipsch T5 II is a huge letdown and may even be a dealbreaker for some, which is why we’re naming the Apple AirPods Pro as the winner of this comparison. The AirPods Pro’s ANC is highly effective and is such a helpful feature to have. Not only does it allow for a much more immersive experience, but you also never have to subject your ears to damagingly high volumes ever again.

It’s worth noting, however, that the T5 II wireless earbuds are a lot more durable and have better battery endurance than the AirPods Pro. If these things are important to you and you don’t really care for ANC, then it might be worth splurging on them.
