The Hypervolt is one of the best-selling percussive massage devices and remains a favorite among athletes, trainers, and even recreational gym-goers. It’s currently available in two models: the standard Hypervolt and the Hypervolt Plus, which comes with a more powerful motor.
But aside from the power output, are there key differences that would make the Hypervolt Plus a better purchase over the original Hypervolt device? Below, we take a look at Hyperice’s innovative percussive massagers to help you decide which model is the right one for you.

Design and Build
The Hypervolt and Hypervolt Plus are compact, lightweight and sturdy massage devices.
Hyperice products are known for their aesthetically sleek design, and the Hypervolt line is no exception. Both the Hypervolt and the Hypervolt Plus are modern-looking massage guns with attachments and accessories that are just as streamlined.
The original model weighs around 3 lbs and is available in silver. Meanwhile, the Plus variant comes in a more discreet matte black finish and has the same lightweight form as its sibling.
While these are not palm-sized devices, the Hypervolt percussive massagers are cordless and so compact enough for portability. Thanks to their ergonomic handles, these devices are easy to operate as well. Other than color, however, both models share the same sturdy build and design DNA.
Features and Performance
Users will get harder strokes from the powerful 90W motor on the Plus model.
If their appearance is mostly indistinguishable, then what sets the two devices apart? Well, the Hypervolt Plus essentially packs more power thanks to its 90W brushless high-torque motor. This 30% increase over the 60W motor of the regular Hypervolt translates to more force being applied to the muscle tissues. As a result, you’ll get harder strokes from the Plus compared to the standard model.
Nonetheless, both devices still come with the same three-speed variability. You also get three pressure levels from the massage guns and a similar maximum of 3,200 percussions per minute performance. In addition, both the Hypervolt and Hypervolt Plus connect to the Hyperice app via Bluetooth for automated use.
Despite the impressive numbers, Hyperice’s vibration massage devices are relatively quiet, with an average of 60 to 65-decibel noise level. The company shares that its proprietary Quiet Glide technology, which follows the principles used by engineers who develop rockets, helped create smaller and more precise components for a relatively noiseless massage gun.
Attachments and Battery Life
Both Hypervolts come with the same attachments and accessories, although the standard model does offer a longer battery life.
The Hypervolt and Hypervolt Plus both come with a 5-piece applicator set. You get the bullet, fork, flat, ball, and cushion head. Each attachment targets specific muscle groups, and are easily interchangeable. Just twist and pull to release, and twist and push to attach a new head.
Now given the extra power of the Hypervolt Plus motor, expect around 150 minutes runtime from this device. In contrast, the Hypervolt should give you around 180 minutes of battery life on a single charge. Both massage guns come with their own wall charger and head attachment pouch. However, a separate Hypervolt case to store the device, charger, and accessories is sold separately.
The Hypervolt is great for those looking for their first massage gun while the Hypervolt Plus should be a solid choice for professional athletes and fitness trainers.
Hyperice’s line of vibration massage devices is fast becoming a staple among athletes and gym-goers alike. Thanks to their sturdy build and compact design, percussion therapy that helps accelerate warmups, relieve muscle soreness and stiffness, and improve range of motion is now accessible to consumers.
Those looking for their first percussive massage gun, however, will find enough under the hood of the standard Hypervolt. It comes with the same build, design, speed settings, and attachments as the Plus model after all.
Meanwhile, those willing to spend extra dollars and who want a more intense massage pressure level should look into the Hypervolt Plus. Its 90W motor translates to a more powerful massage experience that should make it attractive for those who take want faster recovery times.
The Hypervolt sports a 60W motor while the Hypervolt Plus comes with a more powerful 90W motor. As a result, the Plus model delivers harder strokes compared to the standard variant.
Currently, the Hypervolt Plus is only available in matte black.
The 5-piece attachments are sold together with a Hypervolt device. However, the attachments themselves come as a set. This means you’ll have to buy all 5 pieces again in the event you lose even just one of the attachments.
Those who prefer an even more compact massage gun will probably like the Hypervolt Go. As its name suggests, the device is designed for people on the go. It’s 30% smaller than its regular counterparts and weighs roughly 1.5 lbs. However, it doesn’t come with a pressure sensor and sports a much smaller, 40W motor.
