Design

The Galaxy Tab S6 is lighter and thinner than the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite.

When viewed from the front, it’s hard to tell the difference between the Galaxy Tab S6 and S6 Lite. They have nearly the same physical dimensions, with the Galaxy Tab S6 measuring 9.63 x 6.28 x 0.22 inches and the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite at 9.63 x 6.07 x 0.28 inches. Both tablets also have the same glass front, aluminum back and aluminum frame. However, when held, it’s a lot easier to tell which is which, since the Galaxy Tab S6 is lighter, weighing only 420 grams, and it is thinner. In contrast, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite weighs 467 grams.

On the right side of both tablets are the following: power button, volume rockers and a micro SD card slot. They also have a USB-C port at the bottom. However, an advantage that the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite has over the Galaxy Tab S6 is the presence of a 3.5mm audio jack. Yes, you can use wired headphones with the S6 Lite, which a lot of people will appreciate.

Display

The Galaxy Tab S6 has a superior Super AMOLED screen.

Sporting a Super AMOLED screen, the Galaxy Tab S6 certainly has the better display. With a Super AMOLED screen, colors are more vivid, blacks are deeper and the contrast ratio is better. The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, in comparison, has a TFT LCD display. It is able to produce good quality images, but when compared to the Super AMOLED screen of the S6, it’s just not as good.

The Galaxy Tab S6 has a 10.5-inch display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 for a 288 PPI. On the other hand, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite has a 10.4-inch 2000 x 1200 screen, which results in a 224 PPI. When it comes to display quality, the Galaxy Tab S6 is miles ahead of the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite.

Performance

As it is the lite version, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite’s internals are less powerful than the ones inside the Galaxy Tab S6. From resolution to RAM, to chipset and camera, everything on the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is a step down from the Galaxy Tab S6.

For everyday use, casual users will be totally fine with the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. Browsing, watching or streaming movies, listening to music, etc., are all perfectly acceptable on the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. However, if you want a more responsive and overall better user experience, the Galaxy Tab S6 will be better.

Both tables are great for productivity and they come with support for Samsung DeX—Samsung’s desktop-like user interface. With it, you’ll be able to view multiple apps, split-screen windows and more. As expected though, everything will be faster, snappier and more responsive on the Galaxy Tab S6.

Camera & Battery Life

The Galaxy Tab S6 has dual rear cameras while the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite only has a single.

At the back of the Galaxy Tab S6 are dual cameras—a 13 MP wide and 5 MP ultrawide. They are capable of up to 4K video recordings at 30fps. In contrast, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite only has a single 8 MP camera at its rear which is capable of 1080p videos at 30fps. Looking at the specs, it’s easy to discern that the Galaxy Tab S6 offers the better deal here. However, a downside to both tablets is the lack of a flash. When lighting is good, both tablets are able to deliver excellent images, however, in low-light situations, they tend to have grainy and noisy images.

Both the Galaxy Tab S6 and S6 Lite come with a 7040 mAh Li-Po battery. Battery life will depend on what you are doing, but both tablets can last an entire day with light usage. They both come with 15w chargers that take around 90 minutes to fully charge their batteries from 0%.

Verdict

If you want the overall better tablet, the Galaxy Tab S6 should be your choice.

For those on a budget, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is a great deal. It is a decent tablet for its price and it performs well enough for everyday use. However, if you want the better overall device, then the Galaxy Tab S6 is a no-brainer. It has a superior AMOLED screen, faster chipset and better camera system. Even though it is a lot more expensive than the S6 Lite, we think that it is worth the money.
