Dyson Corrale vs Airwrap Styler (2021): Which Hairstyling Tool Should You Get?

Dyson’s foray into the world of hair and beauty back in 2016 was well-received. The UK-based brand released the game-changing Supersonic hairdryer in 2016, the Dyson Airwrap styler in 2018, and the Dyson Corrale straightener in the spring of 2020. The Airwrap was so popular that it prompted a long waitlist when it was rolled out. We look at the features of the Airwrap and the latest Corrale to help you choose which Dyson better fits your styling needs.

The Dyson Corrale straightener offers cordless functionality and is more travel-friendly than the Airwrap styler

Dyson’s Airwrap (right) is significantly longer than the Corrale

As they serve different purposes, the Dyson Corrale straightener and the Airwrap styler have different designs. However, the newer Corrale’s aesthetics are still consistent with Dyson’s signature color schemes. They are also thoughtfully-built with a premium look and design that don’t sacrifice ergonomics.

The Dyson Corrale straightener is significantly smaller than the long and bulky Airwrap Styler. As a cordless flat iron, the Corrale’s dimensions make it slightly more travel-friendly than the Airwrap. The heat-resistant pouch that comes with the Corrale is also less chunky than the organizer included in the Dyson Airwrap styler.

Users who want pin-straight hair should get the Corrale (left) as the Airwrap works better for creating beautiful waves minus the damaging heat

The cordless Dyson Corrale comes with a charging dock should you want to use the flat iron cord-free. Meanwhile, the complete Dyson Airwrap styler is basically a wand that comes with a couple of attachments. From the pre-styling dryer to the different barrels and brushes, Dyson made sure that you get what you need for the different steps to achieving smooth, frizz-free waves.

Styling Features: Dyson Corrale Straightener

The Dyson Corrale straightener boasts patented flexing plates for less heat damage and breakage; this flat iron can also be used to create curls

Apart from its cordless functionality, another unique feature of the Dyson Corrale straightener is its revolutionary flexing manganese copper alloy plates. Most flat irons typically use solid plates to clamp the hair as you glide from the root to the tips. As for the Corrale, its plates flex as it “corrals,” or gathers, your hair, resulting in more evenly distributed heat without putting too much tension on the hair. This is even more beneficial for those who have weak hair that easily breaks.

The Corrale’s flexing plates and curved profile also allows for more versatile styling. While it gives impressive straightened hair results, you can also use the Corrale to create different kinds of curls and waves. Depending on the technique you use, you can create tighter curls, beach waves, or a grungy tousled look.

You can also play with its three heat settings–330°F, 365°F, and 410°F–to achieve the desired effect or styling speed. Using the lower temperature setting may mean you have to make more passes if your hair is on the coarser side. Since it can be used cordless for 30 minutes, you can easily twist the Corrale flat iron and work on the hair at the back of your neck without worrying about twisting the cord too much.

Styling Features: Dyson Airwrap Styler

The Dyson Airwrap styler lets you achieve different hairstyles without causing extreme heat damage

If you get the Dyson Airwrap complete, you’ll get different attachments to achieve different effects

Dyson’s superb product engineering is showcased in the Aiwrap styler, with all its attachments as well as what’s under the hood. It is designed to keep detecting the temperature so it stays below 302°F (150°C). This helps avoid damaging your hair with extreme heat, something that typically happens when you often use conventional curlers or flat irons. Maintaining a low temperature, from the dryer to the different attachments, will help keep the hair healthy and shiny even if you often style your hair.

A lot of women typically blowdry their hair first before styling using a flat iron or a curler, as wet hair and curlers and flat irons just don’t mesh well. What the Airwrap does is it dries and styles your hair while it’s damp to avoid having to use more heat. Dyson utilizes the Coanda effect to use air from the barrel to attract your hair. The Airwrap styler will then automatically wrap your hair around the barrel to create the desired curls or waves.

Aptly called Airwrap, this Dyson styler uses air to automatically wrap your hair around the barrel

The complete Dyson Airwrap styler includes all the attachments mentioned in the comparison chart. For 50 USD less, you can opt for either the Airwrap Smooth + Control or the Airwrap Volume + Shape. Either option will still include the Aiwrap styler wand, the pre-styling dryer, and the barrels, but will only come with either the volumizing or the smoothing brush.

While it’s better to get the complete set, choosing which one to get will depend on your hair type and your desired effect. If you already have hair with great volume, perhaps you’re better off saving with just the Airwrap Smooth + Control. Those who need the added volume should go for the Airwrap Volume + Shape instead. For households with different hair types, the Airwrap styler complete will be a worthwhile purchase.

Additional Features

Both the Dyson Corrale and the Airwrap come with stylish storage cases and a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty

Store your tools conveniently with the Corrale’s pouch (left) and the Airwrap styler complete’s storage case

Dyson didn’t stop with the thoughtful details with just the hair tools themselves. The Corrale included a stylish heat-resistant pouch that doubles as a protective mat for when you’re using the flat iron. This pouch also comes with a tiny pocket where you can safely keep the flight-ready tag should you want to travel with your flat iron.

Meanwhile, the Dyson Airwrap includes an elegant tan storage case with your purchase so you can secure and organize the styler and its attachments. The case comes with a fabric cushion and magnetic clasp mechanism as well for easier storage.

Both the Dyson Corrale straightener and the Airwrap styler come with a two-year manufacturer warranty. This includes parts and labor, so make sure you register your tool upon purchase.

Verdict

Get the Dyson Corrale if you want pin-straight hair, but if you’re after minimizing heat damage to your hair, the Airwrap styler is for you

Undeniably, both Dyson hairstyling tools deliver impressive results that justify their premium price points. If you’re after having pin-straight hair, the Dyson Corrale straightener is the clear fit for you as the Airwrap cannot achieve this effect. If you’re after curls, waves, or full-bodied hair, either hair tool works great as the Corrale has this capability as well. However, the Airwrap styler is gentler to your hair while also getting similar results.

As the Dyson Corrale has higher heat settings, it can style hair much faster as long as your hair is dry. In contrast, the Airwrap styler‘s lower regulated temperature settings are better for your hair’s health as it helps avoid heat damage. It also lets you skip the long blowdrying part as you can directly style the hair while it’s still damp (it works best while the hair’s damp).
