Design

The Dyna Glo Premier is a larger grill than the Char-Broil Performance.

Dyna Glo vs Char-Broil Design
Here’s a side-by-side view of the Dyna Glo Premier and the Char-Broil Performance 4-burner grills.

Marketed as all-in-one grilling stations, Dyna Glo and Char-Broil’s 4-burner gas grills share some design features in common. Both are large, heavy-duty grills crafted from stainless steel. They also brandish a spacious lid that incorporates a built-in thermometer. Each grill comes with its own primary cooking area, side burner, and side shelf, too.

However, the arrangement of these last two zones on the Dyna Glo and Char-Broil is different. On the former, the side burner is placed on the left side while the latter sets it on the right. This makes them almost appear like mirror images of each other.

The grills both make use of stainless steel tube burners with dedicated control knobs.

Dyna Glo’s Premier grill also sports an enclosed-cabinet design. Since it’s fueled by natural gas via an included hose, there’s no need for LP tanks to be stowed underneath. This gives the Dyna Glo more storage room. In contrast, the Char-Broil Performance grill follows an open cart design, with a front panel that hides the LP tank from view.

The larger Dyna Glo grill weighs just under 100 pounds, while the Char-Broil comes in at 67 lbs. To move them around, robust caster wheels are attached near the base. You get four wheels for all corners of the Dyna Glo, whereas the Char-Broil comes with two 7-inch wheels.

Cooking Performance

Dyna Glo’s grill heats faster and cooks more than the Char-Broil grill.

Dyna Glo vs Char-Broil Cooking Features
Dyna Glo’s primary cooking area (left) is roomier than Char Broil’s.

Given its size, the Dyna Glo Premier offers a larger 673 sq. in. of cooking area. This includes 483 sq. in. for the primary cooking surface and 190 sq. in. for the warming rack. Dyna Glo shares that’s enough room for twenty-three 4.5-inch burgers. In contrast, the Char-Broil grill has 435 sq. in. of primary cooking surface and 130 sq. in. for its warming rack.

When it comes to the cooking grates, both grills use cast-iron grates. The material is not only rust-resistant but also excellent at distributing and retaining heat. However, Dyna Glo’s primary cooking burners deliver a higher 48,000 BTU output compared to the Char-Broil’s 32,000 BTUs. If you want to heat the grill fast, Dyna Glo has the advantage.

As mentioned in the design, Char-Broil uses an LP tank for its fuel. Dyna Glo, though more powerful, requires natural gas plumbing to be connected to the Premier grill. Although the gas hose is included, some homeowners may find the Char-Broil easier to set up.

Additional Features

Dyna Glo and Char-Broil have a couple of accessories between them that should make grilling more convenient.

A closer look at the Dyna Glo’s towel holder (left) and the Char-Broil’s side burner (right).

After the main grill, the side burners are arguably the biggest feature of the Dyna Glo Premier and Char-Broil Performance. They should come in handy for making sauces or cooking soups. Both also have a cover, allowing it to double as a second side shelf for additional workspace.

Dyna Glo’s side burner features integrated tool hooks, too. Meanwhile, the edge of its side burner comes with a towel holder. Both side shelves of the Char-Broil support tool hooks as well. However, you’ll have to purchase these knobs separately.

Fortunately, Char-Broil still includes an accessory for its grill, the Chef’s Delite Tray. The tool is designed for grilling delicate food like vegetables or shrimps that tend to fall between the cooking grates. In contrast, Dyna Glo’s accessories are limited to rotisserie kits and grill covers.

Verdict

Dyna Glo’s Premier gas grill heats faster and cooks more than the Char-Broil Performance. However, the Char-Broil is a solid, budget alternative to the Dyna Glo.

Both the Dyna Glo Premier and Char-Broil four-burner grills are respectable options if backyard BBQs are your thing. However, the Dyna Glo Premier provides a higher BTU output. This means it heats and cooks faster. Its primary cooking area is also larger than Char-Broil’s; plus, you get integrated features like a towel holder and tool hooks.

Still, the Char-Broil Performance is no laggard. You get more or less the same hardware, too, including side shelves, a side burner, and a built-in thermometer. Unlike Dyna Glo, the Char-Broil grill is easier to set up as well, opting for an LP tank than a natural gas plumbing. At half the price of the Dyna Glo, Char-Broil’s four-burner grill is a strong budget alternative.
