Design

The Sennheiser have a more stylish aesthetic and better seal

The Bose have a slightly bigger charging case

The Sennheiser MOMENTUM and Bose SoundSport Free are both thicker than many wireless earbuds available in the market today. However, the MOMENTUM look and feel more premium than the Bose SoundSport Free with their smaller size and sleeker design. If you’re looking for more fun colors though, the Bose can offer that.

Both true wireless earbuds can be your workout companion as they both stay secure and fit snugly even when doing sports and exercise. The Sennheisers don’t come with custom eartips, whereas the Bose included other sizes that you can choose from when you purchase the SoundSport Free. With that said, the MOMENTUM wireless earbuds still have a great seal that allows for better passive noise cancellation than the SoundSport Free.

Sound Quality

Both wireless earbuds have superb sound quality, but the Sennheiser MOMENTUM allow EQ customization

Both have a companion app, but only the Sennheiser’s lets you easily adjust the EQ (right most)

It’s hard to choose which wireless earbuds sound better as they both deliver incredible sound quality. The SoundSport Free come with Bose’s traditional sound signature that makes them more versatile for all genres. Meanwhile, the Sennheiser MOMENTUM have incredible instrument separation and slightly deeper bass that will make hiphop, pop or EDM shine.

Perhaps the Sennheisers win by having an app that will let you play with the EQ settings. If you want more treble, simply adjust in the app and you will hear the difference. The Bose don’t come with this customization capability. In addition, the MOMENTUM have a better seal than the Bose, allowing them to isolate ambient sound better than the SoundSport Free.

Since the Sennheisers are equipped with Bluetooth 5.0, they have better audio latency than the Bose and don’t have lag when watching videos. The SoundSport Free sound stunning when you’re listening to music, but using them with streaming videos, playing games, or even when making calls is another story.

Set Up and Controls

Both the Bose and Sennheiser have physical control buttons and support digital assistants, but the Sennheisers have touch controls

Unlike the Bose (left), the Sennheisers’ (right) earbuds have touch panels

You can find the physical control buttons of the Bose on the side so you can easily press them without putting more pressure on your ears. Meanwhile, the Sennheiser MOMENTUM house responsive touch panels that you can use to control tracks or manage calls. The touch controls may be baffling at first, but once you’ve memorized them, they work well without problems.

When setting them up, the Bose can be paired smoothly while the Sennheisers need to be held close to your device during the initial pairing as they tend to get confused at first. Both true wireless earbuds can be used with voice assistants like Siri, Alexa, or Google for hands-free controls.

Another feature that the Sennheiser MOMENTUM are equipped with is the Smart Pause. These wireless earbuds can detect when you take an earphone out of your ears and pause the music for you. They automatically resume playback when you put them back in.

Additional Features

The Bose and Sennheiser are sweatproof and water-resistant. Both have decent battery life, but the SoundSport Free’s are longer.

An IPX4 rating means they can withstand rain for around 10 minutes

As they are IPX4-rated, the Bose SoundSport Free and Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless Earbuds are sweatproof and water-resistant. They can be used during heavy workouts as they can withstand sweat and moisture. You can also wash them in the sink or use them under the rain for 10 minutes or less. Just don’t submerge them completely, as they are not waterproof.

As for their battery life, both wireless earbuds have a decent battery, but not as good as other earphones of the same class. The Bose have up to five hours of playtime with and an additional 10 hours through their charging case. Meanwhile, the smaller Sennheiser only have four hours of playtime and its case can give you an additional eight hours in one charge.

Verdict

The Sennheisers’ aesthetics, noise isolation, and EQ customization make them worth the price

When it comes to audio quality alone, it would be a tie between the two as they both deliver incredible sound no matter what type of music you’re listening to. However, if you like having control of the EQ settings and prefer sleeker earbuds, the Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless Earbuds are the better option. They also come with Transparency Mode, touch controls, and more microphones for voice call quality. However, if they are out of your price range, the Bose SoundSport Free are a great alternative at a lower price point.
