Design

The upcoming Bose Noise Canceling Earbuds 700 will be smaller than the existing earbuds from Bose

The upcoming Noise Canceling Earbuds 700 (left) will come with a charging case unlike the Bose Headphones 700

We only have a sketch of the upcoming Bose Noise Canceling Earbuds 700, as they have not yet released a schematic rendering and prototype. When we compared the Bose SoundSport Free wireless earbuds against the AirPods Pro, we mentioned that the noise-canceling AirPods Pro look sleeker and less conspicuous than the bulky SoundSport Free.

Many users did not like how the older Bose earbuds jut out of your ears quite unattractively. Bose seems to be addressing this as the sketch of the Bose Noise Canceling Earbuds 700 shows that they will be slimmer than the SoundSport Free.

Still, it’s hard to top the AirPods Pro’s sleek design and short stem. Even their wireless charger is smaller than most charging cases on the market today. The eartips of the AirPods Pro also fit comfortably and snugly. With three custom ear tips included in the box, you can easily find one that will fit you the best.

Noise Cancellation

The AirPods Pro have impressive noise cancellation. The Bose Earbuds 700 promise noise-cancellation that’s comparable to their headphones.

The upcoming Bose Noise Canceling Earbuds 700 will share some features with the Noise Canceling Headphones 700 (pictured)

When we compared the noise cancellation of the Bose Headphones 700 and AirPods Pro, the earcups of the Bose 700 provided an unfair advantage to the wireless earbuds when it came to sound isolation. It will be interesting to find out how well the noise-canceling feature of the Bose Earbuds 700 will work once they’re released this year.

Bose claims that the upcoming Noise Canceling Earbuds 700 will almost be on par with their over-ear headphones, which are top-notch. Their Headphones 700 feature 11 levels of Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), allowing you to adjust the settings depending on your needs. The highest ANC settings can easily block off the hum of an airplane’s engine when you’re flying as well as most conversations around you. Meanwhile, the lowest setting will let you clearly hear your surroundings so well that “you’ll be surprised you’re wearing headphones at all,” Bose claims.

The Apple AirPods Pro may only have three ANC levels (ANC, Transparency Mode, and Off), but their noise cancellation capabilities do not disappoint. These tiny earbuds are surprisingly almost comparable to some of the best over-ear headphones from Sony and Bose.

Each wireless earpiece of the AirPods Pro is equipped with outward and inward-facing microphones that detect the sound around you. Apple’s Adaptive EQ technology then adjusts the noise cancellation depending on what they detect to deliver a more immersive listening experience.

Sound Quality

The Apple AirPods Pro have excellent sound quality

Apple’s AirPods Pro are equipped with a high dynamic range amplifier and their custom-built H1 Chip that uses 10 audio cores to provide low audio processing latency. In addition, the AirPods Pro have better sound quality in low and middle frequencies compared to their predecessors.

You can also take calls in a noisy, crowded place without problems using the AirPods Pro. The caller on the other line will still clearly pick up your voice and vice versa because of their active noise canceling feature.

While we do not have the specifications of the upcoming Bose Noise Canceling Earbuds 700, the existing Bose Headphones 700 deliver premium sound quality. If the Earbuds 700 will have the same superb sound quality and adaptive mic system of the Headphones 700, then they really will be as “category-defining” as Bose claims. Currently, the Bose SoundSport Free wireless earbuds do not work well with taking and making phone calls, and their users have experienced a lot of bugs. Hopefully those will be ironed out with the arrival of the earbuds.

Set up and Controls

Both the AirPods Pro and Bose Noise Canceling Earbuds 700 will have touch controls

Just like the Bose 700 (left), the upcoming earbuds will have touch and voice controls

Pairing your AirPods Pro, especially to your Apple device, is a breeze. Simply open the charging case while it’s close to your device and you’re done. If you’re an Android user, connecting through Bluetooth is also quick and effortless. You can also identify which ear tips will be perfect for you using their Ear Tip Fit Test.

Apple has long been known for its intuitive and responsive devices and the same goes for the AirPods Pro. You can effortlessly control your music through touch or switch modes by pressing and holding the force sensor on the stem. Setting up and using your smart assistant, especially with Siri, is also straightforward.

As for the upcoming Noise Canceling Earbuds 700, it is safe to assume that they will be compatible with Siri, Alexa, or Google, unlike the SoundSport Free wireless earbuds. Many users have reported encountering issues with the Bose 700 and SoundSport Free when pairing up with or switching devices. They work smoothly with Apple devices, but some have reported problems when pairing with older Android models. However, Bose continues to address this through updates on their software.

As for touch and physical controls, it is uncertain whether the new Noise Canceling Earbuds 700 will be operated fully through touch controls or will have buttons like the Bose 700 and SoundSport Free.

Additional Features

The AirPods Pro are sweat and water-resistant and come with a wireless charging case

Bose
The Bose Headphones 700 (in photo) are not sweat-resistant so they are not good for sports and exercises

You can use your AirPods Pro for strenuous activity and exercise, except for water sports, as they are sweat and water-resistant, but not completely waterproof. With an IPX4 rating, your Apple wireless earbuds can withstand water splashes from any direction. Bose has not yet released any details on whether the new Earbuds 700 will be sweat-resistant as well, but as their SoundSport Free earbuds also have an IPX4 rating, it’ll be safe to assume that the earbuds on the horizon can be used with sports and in the gym.

Another notable feature of the AirPods Pro is its wireless charging case. The charging case gives an additional 19 hours of runtime, so with one full charge, you can use your AirPods Pro for up to 24 hours. The Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700 have a listening time of up to 20 hours while the Bose SoundSport Free have a listening time of up to five hours and an additional 10 hours through its charging case. Hopefully, the new earbuds will have a longer battery life than the older headphones.

Verdict

The AirPods Pro have excellent features for their price

The AirPods Pro are among the most solid options for noise-canceling wireless earbuds in the market today. Its Active Noise Canceling capability is comparable to top-notch over-ear headphones and its stylish design, versatility, and user-friendliness are among the many reasons why they’re a great buy.

Bose released their Noise Canceling Headphones 700 in June, 2019 and have not yet announced when exactly in 2020 the Earbuds 700 will be released. Apple products do not tend to depreciate significantly so even if you buy the AirPods Pro today and want to sell them when Bose releases its Noise Canceling Earbuds 700, you will still get your money’s worth and not lose much.
