The PowerBrush has a more ergonomic design that makes it more maneuverable than the standard Pet Stain Eraser.

Bissell Pet Stain Erase vs PowerBrush Design Comparison
Lithium-ion batteries power these portable Bissell carpet cleaners.

Bissell’s full-sized carpet cleaners typically sport unique designs. Its Little Green, for instance, looks more like a pod, while its Pet Pro models have the form of an oversized helmet. With the cordless and compact models, Bissell keeps things simple. The Pet Stain Eraser and Pet Stain Eraser PowerBrush look like regular handheld vacuums. Unlike their vacuum counterparts, however, these portable cleaners have an angular design.

Now, Bissell’s Pet Stain Eraser follows a more horizontal orientation. When using it, it’s almost as if you’re ironing a surface. On the other hand, the PowerBrush’s suction and nozzle have a bit of height, ensuring the dirty water tank on the base doesn’t get in the way of cleaning. The handles on the cleaners are grippy with a control button you can easily reach using your thumb.

If you’re talking of comfort, however, the PowerBrush is lighter than the standard Pet Stain Eraser. This makes the PowerBrush easier to maneuver. Underneath its nozzle, the suction channel for the brush comes with a cover plate, too. On the Pet Stain Eraser, the cleaning brush is exposed.

Bissell places the batteries of these cleaners on the back. At the lower end of the handles, you’ll find the charging port, too. In terms of color, there isn’t much variety. The Pet Stain Eraser has a cobalt blue and titanium finish. Meanwhile, the PowerBrush sports a black body with electric blue accents.

Cleaning Power and Performance

The Bissel Pet Stain Eraser PowerBrush has a longer battery life and better spot cleaning ability than the standard Pet Stain Eraser.

Bissell’s Pet Stain Eraser uses a stationary brush (left) while the PowerBrush employs a rotating DirtLifter (right).

A 7.2-volt battery drives both the Bissell Pet Stain Eraser and PowerBrush. However, the standard Pet Stain Eraser takes about 4 hours to fully charge, while the PowerBrush takes 4.5 hours. The extra charging time on the PowerBrush translates to 20 minutes of running time, five minutes more than the Pet Stain Eraser. Both cleaners have an 8 oz. water tank capacity and a 3-inch wide cleaning path.

For cleaning most surface-level stains, the suction power and cleaning width of these appliances should be enough. But if you want to clean up set-in stains, then a corded upright carpet cleaner is a better option. Between these two Bissell cordless cleaners, however, the PowerBrush has the edge. It comes with a rotating DirtLifter PowerBrush that can loosen and lift stains better than the stationary brush on the Pet Stain Eraser.

Bissell shares that the Pet Stain Eraser and PowerBrush can work on carpets, area rugs, stairs, pet beds, and car interiors. The PowerBrush is also recommended for spot cleaning.

Formulas and Accessories

Bissell’s cordless carpet cleaners work best with the company’s proprietary cleaning formulas.

Like their upright counterparts, the Pet Stain Eraser and PowerBrush work best when paired with Bissell’s proprietary formulas. The Pet Stain Eraser comes with trial sizes of the Professional Spot & Stain + Oxy solution. On the other hand, the PowerBrush is paired with the Advanced Pro Oxy Spot & Stain Formula. Both cleaning solutions can be used without mixing any water.

In terms of accessories, you only get a few out of the box for either device. Bissel’s Pet Stain Eraser comes with a charger and plug. Depending on the model, you could also get a window cleaning tool, round bristle brush, and straight bristle brush. Meanwhile, select models of the PowerBrush may include a Pet Tool in addition to the rotating DirtLifter brush.

The Bissell Pet Stain Eraser PowerBrush is better than the original Pet Stain Eraser.

For tackling surface stains and messes, Bissell’s cordless carpet cleaners are a great alternative to the full-size, corded models. They’re compact, lightweight, and can use Bissell’s cleaning formulas right from the bottle โ€” no mixing needed. However, the Bissell Pet Stain Eraser PowerBrush is better than the original Pet Stain Eraser.

Bissell’s PowerBrush comes with a rotating DirtLifter brush that loosens and lifts stains more efficiently. It also has a more ergonomic design, including a lighter body that’s easier to maneuver.

However, battery life isn’t much of an advantage to either device. While the PowerBrush does run for 20 minutes compared to the Pet Stain Eraser’s 15 minutes, it does take longer to fully charge. Nonetheless, it’s a downside worth taking for having a more powerful cleaner.
