Build

The Amazfit GTS 2 mini has a better screen and build quality than the Amazfit Bip U Pro.

The screen on the Amazfit Bip U Pro (left) is decent, but only the Amazfit GTS 2 mini (right) has always-on display.

It’s hard to tell the Amazfit Bip U Pro and the Amazfit GTS 2 mini apart at first glance. That isn’t surprising since they do have the same squircle form factor and the same 2.5D curvature. But the quality of their builds is where the differences become apparent.

First off, the Bip U Pro’s case is made from polycarbonate, and it sports a 1.43-inch IPS LCD with a 320 x 302 resolution. In contrast, the GTS 2 mini has an aluminum body, and more often than not, metal beats plastic. Along a similar vein, it also has a 1.55-inch AMOLED display with a 354 x 306 resolution, resulting in a more vibrant image quality and deeper blacks. Moreover, it’s slightly thinner and has slimmer bezels, giving it a sleeker appearance.

Elsewhere, the two are more or less the same. Both use silicone straps and the same magnetic charger and microphone on the back. Also, they have the same water resistance of 5 ATM.

Tracking

The Amazfit Bip U Pro and Amazfit GTS 2 mini use a BioTracker 2 PPG Biological Optical Sensor.

The Amazfit Bip U Pro (left) has 60 sports modes, but the Amazfit GTS 2 mini (right) has up to 70.

Under the hood, the Amazfit Bip U Pro and the Amazfit GTS 2 mini house a BioTracker 2 PPG Biological Optical Sensor. That means they’re basically on par with each other when it comes to health tracking accuracy. Speaking of, both have SpO2, female health, and 24/7 heart rate tracking, as well as sleep monitoring, which includes light and deep sleep and REM. There’s also stress monitoring in the mix with guided breathing sessions to boot, and they offer PAI health scores.

These wearables can also track workouts like running, swimming, cycling, rowing, and more. They don’t require users to bring their phones along for outdoor exercises either since both have built-in GPS. However, the GTS 2 mini does the Bip U Pro one better by supporting 70 sports modes instead of 60.

Usage

The Amazfit Bip U Pro may have a bigger battery, but the Amazfit GTS 2 mini can last longer on a single charge.

A look at the Zepp companion app’s interface.

The Amazfit Bip U Pro has a larger 230 mAh battery than the Amazfit GTS 2 mini’s 220 mAh one. But interestingly, the latter can last up to 14 days with typical usage, while the former only has enough juice for 9 days. That could be because of a number of things, but the AMOLED display on the GTS 2 mini likely plays a big part.

As for navigating the interface, there isn’t much of a difference. Swiping down opens quick settings, swiping up gives access to notifications, and swiping left or right scrolls through their features such as SpO2 tracking, weather, PAI progress, and so on. Pressing on their crown brings up the menu and holding it down enables workout mode. Needless to say, both use the same Zepp companion app as well.

Features

Only the Amazfit GTS 2 mini has an always-on display and automatic brightness, not the Amazfit Bip U Pro.

Amazfit Bip U Pro vs GTS 2 mini Features
Both the Amazfit Bip U Pro (left) and the Amazfit GTS 2 mini (right) have Alexa support.

Amazon Alexa is baked in the Amazfit Bip U Pro and the Amazfit GTS 2 mini. In other words, users can ask them questions or control smart home devices that support the virtual assistant. The two can also control a smartphone’s music playback or camera. The takeaway here is both are packing plenty of smart features expected from any smartwatch worth its salt nowadays.

However, the Amazfit GTS 2 mini has one advantage over the Amazfit Bip U Pro: always-on display. Similar to the case with their battery life, that upper hand stems from its AMOLED display. It doesn’t end there either, as it’s the only one of the two that has an ambient light sensor.

Verdict

Without a doubt, the Amazfit GTS 2 mini is the better wearable of the two, but that doesn’t mean the Amazfit Bip U Pro isn’t worth getting.

The Amazfit GTS 2 mini is better than the Amazfit Bip U Pro in more ways than one. For starters, it has a sharper and more colorful AMOLED display, aluminum case, automatic brightness, and longer battery life. It even features an always-on display mode and tracks more workouts.

That’s not to say that the Bip U Pro doesn’t have its charm, though. For one thing, it’s more affordable, and considering it can do almost everything the GTS 2 mini can speaks volumes. In short, it’s a decent pick for those who want a capable GPS smartwatch that doesn’t break the bank.
