Acer ICONIA TAB A501 Review

Score: 5.57/10

Acer ICONIA TAB A501 is a fair quality Android tablet launched in March 2011, equipped with an enormous 10.1 inches multi touch screen, a good 1 gigahertz Dual-Core processing unit, a 5 MP back-facing camera and a 2 mega-pixels front-facing camera.

This tablet ships with a good Dual-Core processing unit clocking at 1000 MHz and 1 GB of RAM memory. A good point of the Acer ICONIA TAB A501 is the 16 GB quite big internal storage and a slot for external memory cards, allowing you to install a couple hundred apps without any problem.

This device is a very compact device, given that it presents a 10.1 inches display and it is only 10.24" long. This tablet is a bit thick for current standards, being as thick as 0.52 inches. It seems like Acer forgot about optimizing the weight in this 25.75 ounces device.

The Acer ICONIA TAB A501 features two cameras, a 5 mega-pixels back side camera and a 2 MP front side camera. Additionally, the camera features auto-focus and flash.

This tablet includes an average 800 x 1280 10.1 inches screen, which makes everything look quite good. Its screen uses LCD capacitive technology, and allows multi-touch for gestures like pinch and zoom.

The Acer ICONIA TAB A501 packs a 3260 mAh great Li-Ion non-removable battery that provides this device a poor battery lifecompared to other tablets. A key issue to consider is that this tablet's battery is non-removable so you can't buy a new battery when it begins to live shorter, having to buy a new tablet to "solve it".

This tablet has Wi-Fi connection (although it can't be shared with other devices as a mobile mobile hotspot), HSPA+ (4G) data connection, that is not as fast as LTE-A or LTE 4G networks or fast 3G internet connection, supported by HSDPA, HSUPA, UMTS and EDGE technologies. This tablet uses a SIM card for GSM connection.

The Acer ICONIA TAB A501 also includes some interesting features like Bluetooth (2.1, EDR), GPS (Global Positioning System) and NFC, and multiple sensors like Light Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Accelerometer, Gyroscope and Compass.

Acer sells this tablet for $ 215, which is quite a high price for this kind of device.
